Lalo Rodríguez' first solo recording remains his most famous. Most important, his superb collaboration with arranger/musical directors Ray Santos and Louis García helped launch a new era in Puerto Rican salsa. All his tunes incredibly manage to shine on their own, which was sort of a rarity in this musical concept. "Máximo Chamorro" is Sylvia D. Gama's ode to a heroic figure. Another plus of the production is the singer's showcasing of his songwriting abilities; "Tu No Sabes Querer" and "Las Lujeres" are examples of his romantic posturing. "Francisco Andante" and "Si No Hay Material" are little social speeches. And "No Me Importa" makes him a credible olero stylist. One of Puerto Rico's most indispensable salsa efforts, this recording remains a Rodríquez favorite to this day.
