Lady Sovereign's debut album was the sound of young London coming right off the streets. The grime rapper's sophomore release, Jigsaw, has the same amount of saucy attitude as the first album, Public Warning, and there are almost as many laughable punch lines from the S-O-V. The thin electro-meets-grime-meets-indie productions from the returning Medasyn mix Panic at the Disco, La Roux, and Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me" in varying amounts, adding the occasional live drummer, chamber orchestra, or Cure sample in an effort to keep things interesting. The "top-notch bitch" is triggered when the percussive "I Got the Goods" gets simple, making a memorable chorus out of nothing but boasts. "On & On" features "I'm just trying to blow up like implants," "Food Play" is a fun mix of food and sex that could thrill the South Park character Chef, and the magic of "Guitar" lies in its wonderfully off-key "If I could play guitar then I'd play it/But I can't so I'll just siiiiiiiinnnnnnng." These small victories contrast with meaningless anthems ("Let's Be Mates") and trying soul-searchers (the title cut).
2006’s Public Warning was Lady Sovereign’s introduction to the music world. At the time, Jay Z backed her on Def Jam. Missy did a remix with her on her hit Love Me or Hate Me. Fast forward to end of 2008, Lady Sov’ is on her own with no big label behind [...]No related posts. Sorry.
For me Lady Sovereign has been a very guilty pleasure of mine, and her latest Jigsaw, is no different. As an (amateur) music critic, I should be demanding more from a sub 4 minute pop artist, and wondering when more Grime scene collaborations, ala The Battle from Vertically Challenged, make their way to a new album. But I digress, or rather regress, as I've found Lady S-O-V! to be an artist ...
A few years back, the gritty, sticky rap-hop lo-fi sounds of britain's newly coined "grime" scene intrigued...and pushed me to embrace the MCstylings of Lady Sovereign. After a period of extened plays, tracks like "Hoodie" and "Love Me or Hate Me" dropped to the back of the playlist rotation. Gotta admit, I guess she slipped my mind...might have something to do with the fact that I, ahem, rarel...

The Sovereign known as Lady is back and has recently announced the follow up to her 2006 album Public Warning. Entitled Jigsaw, the album will be released via Midget Records on April 6 of next year and features huge names (if huge means unkown) such as Dr.
Yeah, I give Lady Sovereign a hard time for the most part. I mean, she's just so easy to target--the silly combination of M.I.A. and Sporty Spice. Her upcoming album Jigsaw comes out April 7th, and I am surprised to hear myself say it's not bad...at all. I think I enjoy her music more when I try not to picture her tiny self throwing down these hip hop beats. Lady Sovereign - Bang Bang [y...
More than two years since her first effort, 2007's Public Warning , Lady Sovereign is officially back in the game, as April 7 sees the release of her long-awaited sophomore record, Jigsaw . And now, news is complete as the S-o-v now has released the album artwork and tracklist. We've heard the ten-track record and we have to say, it's pretty banging. Lots of samples, lots of Sov's trademark ...
Check out the lead single, I Got You Dancing, from Lady Sovereign's sophomore album "Jigsaw". We're not quite sure yet whether its a funky dance floor jam, or just kind of annoying…maybe it's a little bit of both. It has a tad too much going on in it for our tastes, but being brass has [...]
It's very difficult to digest this CD without some form of hiddenagenda against the artist and it is probably the biggest obstacle toovercome when trying to be unbiased and professional. It's not as if nobody has ever heard of Lady Sovereign; she's that short, feisty,teenage-looking-but-actually-twenty-three-year-old urban-pop star who's been on our screens and radios for a surprising amount of...
