Nike: North American Scum Musicians who sell their work to corporations are like . . . HDTV. High-definition is great if you’re watching a good movie. But if the movie sucks, then it sucks in double linear resolution. It sucks vividly. In the same way, good musicians, like Feist, can enhance their standing with a corporate tie-in, whereas mediocre artists such as Moby only serve to clarify how much of a grave-robbing bible-bashing slaphead they actually are. Althou... MORE
While I'm not much for talking about myself, I just want to say that I have never, ever, EVER met a group of people quite like you guys. I can come here whenever I need to, for a laugh, or for a cry. I have found, discovered, enomored over, and hopefully, spread, some of the music (and friends) that I now consider near and dear to my heart. Thank you MOG, and MOGgers for just being who you are, at our little musical outpost on the web's lonely road. I consider you my ... MORE
FACT Mag published its Top 100 Tracks of 2007 today. I'm glad they held off until Friday, because it is going to take me all weekend to digest this list. But at first glance, a lot of my own fave tracks of 2007 are on the list along with a lot of other MOG faves. And to top it off, this is the best presented list I have seen yet: each of the 100 entries has a short description and a pic of the artist, plus a link to where to hear the track! Check it at FACT Mag. My f... MORE
It's officially New Year's Eve in my neck of America. It's been quite a year, both for me personally and for music. I've decided not to make a list of the year's best albums this time around, mostly because I suck at making lists. Except playlists. That is a matter of personal pride for me.
So I've decided to upload my favorite song of 2007, rather than subject you all to one more damned year-end best-of list to argue over. I realize that it's a rather broad stateme... MORE

That's a picture of what's-his-name from LCD Soundsystem at the City Limits festival last year. Their performance was one of the high water marks of an entire weekend that was full of them. Along with Björk, Andrew Bird and Common, they helped ease the blow of the Stripes & Rodrigo cancelling.
The reason I created this post was to share an LCD bootleg I came across from 2007, but I'm kind of stuck on "New York I Love You" at the moment...so here's both. I've got some o... MORE

For some reason, if I get between six and seven hours of sleep, I have the most difficult time waking up. I can sleep four hours and be fine. Twelve hours? So, so fine. Seven hours? My day is fucked. I slept from 1:15 a.m. to 8:15 after an evening at karaoke with visions of doing a drunken "Cool Jerk" in my head ("A hahahahahahaha-HAAAA! Look at those guys looking at me like I'm a FOOL, when deep down inside, they know I'm pretty FUCKING cool.") I want to crawl back unde... MORE
"my house." if you didnt get that dont worry about it. but theyre not actually, so dont come over. but ive really been diggin the 'sound of silver' album. track 5 'all my friends' is a standout (^^). one of my traveling songs. it never lets up. it constantly builds until it inevitably implodes in my joy glands. or somethin. it reminds me of a song that would be found during the serious part at the end of a romantic comedy. you know, where the main character goes through a ... Why do we all like lists? It must be how they sum up everything nice and clean, making an easily digestible package of thought. It's sort of the sitcom of writing, but instead of everything being wrapped up nicely in the allotted 30 minutes, it's 10 bullet points. I'm not complaining -- I'm going to make my list right here in this very post. Really, it's fun. But there is something sort of shallow about it. I mean, This year I learned about a lot of great stuff this y... MORE

lcd soundsystem is known as a euro-dance sounding outfit a la new order or hot chip, but on their new album sound of silver they prove to be more than one-trick ponies. even on their eponymously-titled album from a couple of years ago, there were clear indications that lcd soundsystem's interests stretched beyond the dancefloor. check out this beatlesque number from that self-titled cd, lcd soundsystem.
"Dear Prudence," anyone?
