The newest, most exciting development I have found in independently produced music is called CASH Music, which stands for "Coalition of Artists and Stakeholders." If you aren't into this lady's music, maybe you should be. I've been a fan since ..well Throwing Muses - Throwing Muses. But what is really entertaining is reading her tour diaries. Imagine a fairly well established (80's-00's+) indie rocker, add children, dogs, spouse, and band etc.. put them in a bus and tell about it. Ok it sounds kind of played. I NEED to listen to more women ... Why do I listen to far more male artists/bands/lead vocals than women ??? I could say, & do think part of it is the fact that it seems there are more men in the spotlight than women. We had Lita Ford as one of the token _female_ hair bands, Pat Benatar (GODDESS), Blondie, Madonna, Cindi Lauper (way underappreciated), Tori Amos, Babes in Toyland ... Before hearing Kristin Hersh's solo album, Sunny Border Blue, any one of us could have been a different person. It was at a crowded Ann Arbor Borders appearance in early 2002 that I was first exposed to the dreamlike, sharp yet balanced solo work of this amazing artist. 2007 has been a great year for music so far, with a lot of expected greatness and a few surprises (at least for me). First of all, I'm pretty sure that Of Montreal's new one is going to be my party album for quite some time. Learn to Sing Like a Star is, without doubt, a Kristin Hersh record that's not entirely divorced from a Throwing Muses record (she has announced that the Muses aren't a dead concern), while also touching on 2001's Sunny Border Blue and her last solo offering, The Grotto, released in 2003.
