This CD reissue brings back a very unusual King Curtis set. Rather than playing R&B-ish tenor as usual, Curtis switches to alto, plays effective guitar on a few numbers, and sings most of the tunes. Joined by guitarists Al Casey and Mac Pierce, pianist Paul Griffin, bassist Jimmy Lewis, drummer Belton Evans and three female vocalists, Curtis sticks mostly to veteran blues songs (including "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out," "Bad Bad Whiskey" and "Ain't Nobody's Business") and lets the band stretch out on the eight-minute "Deep Fry." A fun (if temporary) departure in King Curtis' career.
