The Immorality of Taxpayer Funded Abortion, R'N'R 'N' Paulitics...

Healthcare continues to dominate the agenda on Capitol Hill as House leadership and the administration try to ram through their big government healthcare plan. Fortunately, they have been unsuccessful so far, as there are many horrifying provisions tucked into this massive piece of legislation. One major issue is the public funding of elective abortions. The administration has already remove...

#3: What's your theme song?

Time for a little introspection here, fellow MOGgers. Since we're all so open these days (and isn't it great, by the way?) I thought I'd pose a hard question. At least, it was a hard one for me. I don't have any guidelines in mind on this, but here's the thought: is there a song out there that sums you up? Maybe you as a person, or one aspect of you? Or in some way touches a deep chord of...

Yeah, King's X! - I like Names With X in Them
9 months ago

I don't listen to a lot of heavy metal, but I've always loved King's X. Their typical tunes have very cool chord progressions and they craft great tunes. Cool CD cover too. This one I'm sharing today is NOT typical of their work, but it's a great track that you don't have to be a head banger or into heavy metal to enjoy. Give it a try- you know you want to.

This one's for Chris

If you saw this, then you already know that our friend Chris has had a bad patch of it recently. A lot of us have poured sympathy and positive vibes his way, but I wanted to keep it going. I don't know if the lyrics to this song completely match what he's going through and what he's feeling, but based on his statements I thought they might, at least in part, serve to put in music what seems t...

#9 . . . and Something Blue

4th post today! I'm making up for a lost day, plus trying to get a little ahead now and then, since I'll most likely be away the last week of the month a good bit.Anyway, this post ties a couple of earlier posts together, in a more or less haphazard way. I mentioned in an earlier post a little about the history of King's X and what they went through, both as a band and personally. I also men...

5 from King's X, part 4: It's so much easier . . .

By their fifth album, things had started to change. As mentioned before, the religious conviction of the bass player and main singer, Doug Pinnick, had started to wane. A bad break with their manager Sam Taylor had brought a more cynical turn to the lyrics, a less-polished more garage sound, and a touch of anger that has still remained in one form or another. What resulted was their hardest,...

Ever have a song come along and re-kick you in the pants?

So I'm listening to my favorite King's X album tonight, Dogman, and I come across this song. Now, I've heard this song hundreds of times, and completely loved it every time. It's not a new song for me, and not one that until now has never really connected with me. But for some reason, tonight . . . it took me to another level. I was driving along, singing at the top of my lungs, almost runn...

5 from King's X, part 3: Goldilox and the three Texans
over 2 years ago

Going back to their first album, Out of the Silent Planet, brings this standout track. This is another of the concert staples, and is an example of their "softer" side. Check out the bass solo halfway through. Subtle yet beautiful.

5 from King's X, part 2: Gospel rock?

For my next post, "the hook," as contra would refer to it, I've gone to their second album, Gretchen Goes to Nebraska. This song is one of the staples of the King's X live show, and is a great example of their "early" sound.

King's X, since hurricane season is upon us!!

I've been off MOG for a couple of days, so my timing is a little off. But I don't care. We recently had our first named storm in the Atlantic (nothing to worry about, fizzled out as soon as it formed, pretty much), which begins another summer of watching, as my friend put it once, "being on the receiving end of God's game of weather darts." Okay, not quite Shakespeare. In honor of the 2007 ...

Don't let the guitar hit you on the ass on yer way out . . . 5 from King's X, part 1
over 2 years ago

I've been in a King's X kind of mood lately. For those of you not familiar, King's X is a power trio from Houston, Texas that formed in the mid 80's. Back then, they were unusual in the fact that they were a Christian band in the non-Chrsitian music world. They had an unusual, very recognizable sound, and quickly made a name for themselves in some circles for their incredible musical prowess...

5 from King's X, part 5: And the Beatles said . . .

Okay, last one. Maybe 5 is too much for one night, but when the music is this good you gotta go where it takes you. There are three songs that are basically required at a King's X show. I've already posted two of them, (numbers 2 and 3 of my postings, for those of you keeping score at home). This is the third. Back to Faith, Hope, Love again for what is one of my all time songs by any band...

Heavy Is As Heavy Does

I have been thinking about the heavy of so called heavy metal. So much of it's drivel. Especially radio corporate whore "metal". I hate it.So, in essence, I have been listening to some of the older stuff I don't get out to listen to that much; cause I am so burnt out on the whole metalcore scene. Cathedral and Godflesh mostly with a bit of Poison Idea and Anthrax and Flipper to add into the mix...

Wonder

When I was in my early 20’s, the band that meant more to me than any other was King’s X. I remember the first time I saw the video for It’s Love, it was in my best friend Ryan’s basement, he had MTV, and we were always watching it, that was when they still played videos… Ryan bought the tape a little while later, the Faith, Hope, and Love album, and we listened to it and it was too much
