Working on a mixtape for a SuperBowl pregame party. I searched my itunes for terms like "Giants, Football, Beer, Chips" and came up pretty dry (other than tune posted here - The Beer Not quite the theme I was going for with lyrics such as "He came home on acid I was holding his shotgun I was dressed like Tina Turner in beyond thunder dome He said don't shoot, I said I won't I love you you're my friendI handed him my wig and shot myself in the head" " but I LOVE this song... Just saw the film "Juno" and it's sad, funny and well worth your time. Here's a track by Kimya Dawson from the soundtrack, which features a number of tracks by Dawson as well as one by her former band, Moldy Peaches.
today I had the last of my uni exams for this semester. I love that relief afterwards when you can just relax and do all the things that you wanted to do while you were studying. (until I go to work tonight, that is. grr.)
so I thought I'd post this song just because it cheered me up and the lyrics are great.
Inspired by today’s post by Boing Boing about Kimya Dawson’s new children’s album Alphabutt, I made a list of children’s albums for a friend today and thought I should share for all you parents. These are albums you will like as much as your kids. Elizabeth Mitchell - You are My Flower Taking a step away from [...]

Carrying on with the musical theme for these last days of summer, here's a Kimya Dawson song with strong opinions voiced in her sweet simple style. Unique and special, that's Kimya.
The timing and content has been a bit erratic on my site MonsterFresh.com, especially as of late, but that is primarily due to its organic development. I use the term "organic" in much the same way that a crop yield can be affected by the refusal to utilize outside elements that, although have the ability to stimulate growth, will also undoubtedly effect the natural composition of things. I only mention this because Kimya Dawson was actually one of the first interviews ... MORE
kimya dawson , who identifies first as a mother and as a musician and artist second, will follow up the juno soundtrack , on which she and the moldy peaches were prominently featured, with a new album of children's music called alphabutt .
the album is due out in early september and includes songs with titles such as "i like bears," "wiggle my tooth," and "pee pee in the potty," but our favorite out of the gate is probably "we're all animals," on which dawson sings: "s... MORE

Kimya Dawson in Seattle March 1st 2008.
Live footage of the song Underground during a benefit for HollowEarthRadio.com
Dawson is trying out a new guitar and stops mid set to clip her nails. Later in the show her other guitar is brought out for her, but this is a prime example of the intimacy and unpretentiousness of her shows even after reaching #1 selling album status (nationwide) with the JUNO motion picture soundtrack.
"One million people realize a smile on someone's face is more contagious than west nile, sars or aids"
Kimya is the lyrical master.
This, a gentle song about living in a climate of fear, is one of the oddest songs on the Body of War cd. I hadn't planned to post it, but I thought the song I wanted to post Immortal Technique's "The 4th Branch" might be too hard-edged and might offend everyone and get me booted off the MOG or worse. Score one for (self) censorship.
i just think that everyone should know how amazing kimya dawson is. my favorite song by her is 12/26.
it is a beautiful song about a woman who loses her family and everything she had in an Indian Ocean earthquake.
i think there should be more song like this one out there today because we need to be informed about the world outside of the USA. it is much much bigger than just us.
"a tragedy's a tragedy no matter where it happens"
thank you kimya. your words are powerful.
