AMG Review of Die Soundboy Die EP
John Bush
All Music GuideA tidy package of Kid606 lunacy, Die Soundoy Die may be listed as an EP, but its 45 minutes of runtime makes it just as long as any Seals & Crofts LP from the '70s. Although stylistically, it's just as varied as fans would expect -- including nods to darkwave jungle, experimental techno, electro-techno, even the odd rave soundbyte -- it's not an especially frenetic record. Unlike many of his contemporaries (Squarepusher being the most obvious), Kid606 can float along without resorting to obvious signs that a detour is ahead. That makes for a much more listenable record, one you can return to again, even after repeated listening.
