Another beautiful and heartfelt song of life and death. The lyrics are so evocative SCARED AT NIGHT As a child I would wake at night I was scared, but I kept real quiet Shadows on the walls moving in on me Underneath my sheets I could barely breathe Your room was only just across the hall All it would have taken was a single call Maybe sometimes you’ve got to trust yourself Not to scream out loud and run like hell Believe me All the days you’re unsure... Love is always the mother lode for to be mined for songs. No less here. SURE AS SHIT Choosing my words carefully has never been my strength I’ve been known to be vague and often pointless But you sure as shit know me better than anybody else And for that in my heart I am hopeful So I helped you pack your bags and I folded up your snap shirts When you come back it will already be the winter If you look at other girls working out in the nighttime I d... My initial introduction to Kathleen’s work was through Amazon offering a free download from her latest album. Never one to look a gift horse in the ole pie hole (hay hole??) I snagged said download. And so began my love affair and from my perspective, there is not a bad track on this album. The song "Alicia Ross" has an interesting background. Kathleen Edwards is country the way Lucinda Williams is country. Tough, smart, cool, and never boring. I have been listening to the latest album from Canada's Edwards today, and I can't move on to anything else quite yet. It's just a grand record. Her 2005 release 'Failer' was one of my favorites from that year, and this year's 'Asking For Flowers' is looking like one of the best albums so far in 2008. This song is a classic example of her songwriting...brutally honest, in... MORE
I bought tix to the Kathleen Edwards show in Portland (Maine), but I've got this possible job thing going in DC so I have to stay available for that and can't go. I suggest you see Kathleen if she's appearing in your town on her tour, and certainly buy her new album. She's wonderful.
I'd like to introduce Kathleen Edwards to anybody who has not already heard of her. I know she's had some exposure in the USA but I don't think she is that well known there. Outside of NA I wouldn't know if she is known at all. She's a singer/songwriter from Canada. Her music is described as Alternative Country-Rock by Allmusic.com. I'm not sure exactly what that means. Certainly it's not a far distance from country-rock, folk-rock, alternative country if you like those ... MORE
