Blog post image preview A sunshiny break-up song that I can dance to. I've listened to this song 18 times more than you today. I can't help it: cuss words, biting cynicism, jangly piano, hand claps, the hypnotic accent. Plus it conveys the beauty and humor in failing relationships. I've always been more fascinated by shards of glass than panes. For the last week, every time I got into my car I immediately pushed in the tape deck adapter, hit play on my Sony Walkman CD player, and skipped ah... MORE

#21: Kate Nash - Made of Bricks

Artist:
Album:
Track:
Blog post image preview From across the sea in Europe, a young female singer/songwriter by the name of Kate Nash has become the greatest imported product the Americas has seen this year. Featuring the critically acclaimed single "Foundations," the album displays a more rugged version of a Regina Spektor-esque attitude. Although Nash's British accent is rather thick at times, the songs are sweet and silly, and allow the listener to momentarily retreat to an unfamiliar land of the abnormal.

Blog post image preview Wow, so yeah I've seen this girl around on Stereogum and the like but for some reason never really took the time to check her out. Well I heard Foundations today and it completely blew me away, she reminds me a lot of Lily Allen, except I actually like her music. Just Kidding Lily Fans. Anyways, I immediately downloaded Made of Bricks and the whole album is stunning and raw and filled with feminine energy, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something a littl... MORE

So I make no secret of the fact that one of my favorite places to enjoy music is in my car, Towanda. Before George came along, pretty much every cassette I owned lived in my car because you just never know when you might need to hear Savage Garden's I Want You or The Sunday's Here's Where the Story Ends or U2's . . .well, anything by U2 should be at my fingertips, let's face it. It should not surprise you then that last Friday, after maneuvering through a rather nasty ... MORE

I'm still getting hell for that last post, nevertheless, this "artist on the rise" Kate Nash is quite wonderful--even if she is a Lily Allen clone of sorts. Her music is quite fetching, IMO. =)

Wondering

I listened like a week ago a song by Kate Nash. I'd never heard a thing about her 'til that moment. Surfing the Internet... "Foundations" was the title of the song that I found. "Ok", I said, "let's go". I clicked the link and there it was. A really lovely sound. I read that someone said that she's a new Lilly Allen. I don't think so. Each singer is just him/herself. There aren't two identical ones.
