I just heard about Kaki King the other day, so I decided to check her out. Really this post is in line with a series that I am doing on percussion and Drummers, as Kaki reveals during a recent NPR interview: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=90139328 She is, in her own words, actually a frustrated drummer. Drums were her first musical aspiration and yet now unrequited, love. It just happened to be that she was a lot better at playing guitars tha... MORE
From the August Rush soundtrack, this is very inspiring. It's really amazing what can be done with a guitar
After seeing this amazing movie, I had to buy the soundtrack (ok, ok, so I downloaded it). I found this song to be very inspiring.
Last Friday I went to see Kaki at Higherground in Burlington, VT. The concert all around was amazing. As a lot of the Kaki fans there didn't enjoy her band at all, I liked the band. While still liking Kaki's solo stuff better, the drummer in her band was the definite leader of the band. He was drumming out beats that could be mixed into a hard rock track. To open the show came out 19 year old Berklee School of Music student, Emily Elbert. Now this girl was a real treat.... MORE

MOGstars: 7/10 Shredding the guitar rulebook (no pun intended) Kaki King has cut a niche for herself amongst the knowing world of classical stringpickers, by ignoring all conventions she has become the freakish darling of the acoustic guitar with her combination of fret tapping and slap-bass style strumming. Yet fourth album Dreaming of Revenge sees her attempting to breakout from this pigeon-hole and continuing down the road she set upon started by previous outing …Unti... MORE

Kaki King premiered her new video for "Pull Me Out Alive" yesterday; it's the lead single from her new album Dreaming of Revenge which came out today. The video is exquisite and so is Kaki's voice and guitar melodies. According to the video's description, the entire 4 minutes was shot with still cameras using various lighting and shutter techniques to get the unusual visual effects. Then, the photos were collaged together to produce this masterpiece: Kaki King - "Pull M... MORE
In case you didn't know, I am one of those "busy people". It's just the way I am these days: recovering from poverty is a long uphill road. Today is one of the worse days: I woke up at 6, worked until 8, then came in to my day job. When I leave here, I will teach until 10pm, an hour's drive away. So I'll be home at 11pm, just in time to start again tomorrow. Now that I'm sober all the time, though, those early mornings are not so bad. I woke up today to the sound of th... MORE
Official Site: http://www.kakiking.com/ "Playing With Pink Noise" video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=shYdqbJgQdc Kaki king has been around for a few years, though gaining notariety on Letterman and Conan last year ans a half. I had the opportunity to see her live in SF at a small venue and was about 5 feet from her for her "Legs To Make Us Longer" tour. It was amazing, she looped a few of her tracks live, a very hard thing to do seamlessly, but she pulled it off. G... MORE
For those of you who are acoustic-guitar-playing types and are feeling like you can only take the whole acoustic guitar thing so far, this album should give you something new and higher to aspire to. This woman does things -- you'd swear she's got seven hands and three guitars. And yet, it's not manic. Try it out. There's not much on this album in the way of singing, but it's no great loss, because as you'll discover on the one track she does sing on, her voice is noth... MORE
