There's something about bands with three guitarists that just gives you that extra sumpin sumpin when it comes to good bands. Radiohead, Lynyrd Skynyrd, recent Built to Spill, Drive-By Truckers, early Hole....Mariachi Bands(?) all have that layered punch that you can only get by having three people strumming madly with their heads down staring at their feet.
