Former Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis's headstone was stolen last night from Macclesfield Cemetery in Cheshire, England. The stone, which bore the inscription: "Ian Curtis 18-5-80" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart" was stolen between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. There are no apparent leads, but officers are asking that if anyone has any information, they should contact them. Joy Division has recently become more well-known and popular due to a biopic about ... MORE
The memorial to the Joy Division frontman was taken from a Macclesfield's cemetery reports the BBC. Curtis was 23 when he hanged himself in the kitchen of his Macclesfield home after having viewed Werner Herzog's film Stroszek and listening to Iggy Pop's The Idiot in May 1980, shortly before the band were due to go on tour in the US. He met Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook in 1976 who he would later go on to start Joy Division with. The name "Joy Division" stemmed from t... MORE
Gotta throw down some loot for these bad boys. Either those or the Johnny Marr designed shoes. The New Balance shoes get my vote since I love NB and it's extra width.
Some albums are just too good to settle for crappy sounding MP3s. Even as albums are slowly becoming available in lossless codecs, the pricing is way out of whack. At $1 a song, the deluxe reissue of Young Marble Giants' Colossal Youth & Collected Works would cost $46. CDs still look just as great as books on shelves, and reissues usually have the perk of expanded album art and liner notes that are still fun to re-read now and then. Until complete catalogs become available... MORE
As I sit here at work... listening to the lovely tunage my ipod shuffles just for me, I am struck by how much I missed you guys !!! I am still recovering, but I am back & ready for action, who's with me ?!? Let's see... during my hiatus, I listened to music sporadically at best, mostly slept & watched movies & slept some more. When I did listen to music, I found even more comfort in the arms of the bands I love. Alice in Chains, sweeter than Rooster stew, Wallflowers... MORE

See you later 2007. In some ways, especially here on MOG, you've been great, but in many other ways, you've been a crashing bore, or worse. Don't go away mad, just go away.
Now let's bring on 2008!
My childhood Christmas memories are a bit more non-traditional than most, less family-centered. Since it was just me and my mom, that made sense for us. My mom would make me wait until breakfast (homemade bran muffins with raisins) to open presents, then would stand back and allow me to go after them all. After looking over everything, and thanking Mom for it all, cane the big fun; putting on the new clothes, grabbing the new toys, and heading out to show my friends all ... MORE
I finally got around to watching Control, the film about the last few years of Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis' abbreviated life. Based on the book written by Curtis' widow, Deborah, it was interesting, compelling, and moving. It becomes even more of each when viewed along with the 2008 documentary, Joy Divison, and the 2002 film 24 Hour Party People, which touches on the Ian Curtis/Joy Division story in passing. Each film has a different focus and perspective, fo... MORE
If you will be in the Austin/SXSW area on March 12th or 15th, you have a chance to catch the screening of the Joy Division documentary titled simply, "Joy Division". Producer Tom Atencio will host a Q&A right after the March 12th screening, so that is definitely the one to attend if you want the interactive experience! The Grant Gee-directed doc will be released on DVD June 10th. (Gee also directed Radiohead's "Meeting People Is Easy" and "Scott Walker: 30 Century Man".... MORE
Joy Division's early photographer Anton Corbijn directed the film. Corbijn gives us a straight-no-chaser account of reality as it existed for Curtis. Bleak as the gray skies of Manchester in winter, and suitably shot in black and white. Notably, the screenplay for Control was based on Deborah Curtis's (the singer's wido... MORE
