After replaying my last post over and over, I decided to throw some Joss Stone on here. This is from the "soul sessions". I don't think introduction is at all necessary. With one of the most powerful female voices today, Joss Stone can really blow.

I'm trying to make a CD for my car, (don't have mp3 equipment for it yet). I'm looking for some newer soulful songs to fit on it, approx. 19 songs. Not sure on the exact genre my taste in what I'm looking for is, but I have some songs as a guide for what I'm looking for. So far I got from the past few years is:1. Beyonce - Resentment2. Alicia Keys - Like You'll Never See Me Again3. Anthony Hamilton - Sailin Away4. Anthony Hamilton - Glad You Called5. Musiq - Teachm... MORE
prior to joss stone's newest album, i have to admit, to me she was one of those chicks that has a raw ass voice, but after two or three songs you just want her to shut up. (at times the same sentiment goes with the lovely goapele...) introducing joss stone, however, was indeed an introduction to a new person. the songs are unique enough for me to even listen to the whole cd in one sitting. crazy. what tickles my fancy the most is that she dragged ms. hill onto "music"-a... I was watching German TV the other night, and saw Joss Stone performing her new single. Whilst I'm no major fan of hers, her performance here is top notch. It's a shame the studio audience are so flat, perhaps they didn't recognise her. The bubble perm and dark locks probably fooled them.
I've seen a few great "female artists" lists on here and there are a lot of great women on those lists. But one that seems to be missing is Joss Stone. Yes, she's young but the girl has soul running through her veins. I have some friends that didn't listen to her at first because of all the hype, she's young, she's pretty, she's a fad, but once they heard her they realized how great she really is. I'll post a couple videos on here and the rest in comments so it doesn'... MORE
OK, so when I heard the hype about Joss Stone, I stayed away. Most overrated album of the year, I heard. MOR radio pap, I heard. Soul music rip-off I heard. 16 year irish gal tries to sing aretha, I heard. So I stayed away.
A few years later, when nobody is watching, I checked out the album. damn, man, it's good! don't tell anyone I'm listening to it. I want them to think I'm digging the new thom yorke instead...
I was recently introduced to Joss Stones' "The Soul Sessions," and have quickly gotten addicted to her voice and her lyrics. I couldn't believe she was only 16 when she recorded this album. In the past few weeks I've also really gotten into Alicia Keys' music (more R&B than soul, but equally amazing). My music changes with my mood, and lately I've really been trying to find more artists similar to these two. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for other simil... MORE
