Josh Rouse | We discuss his finest album moment.... 'Sad Eyes'

An ode to his adopted hometown of 10 years (before he relocated to Spain), Nashville has become Rouse's most complete album to date. Like much of Rouse's work it's sprinkled liberally with melancholy but it resists lapsing into an introspective bout of yawnsome blues through sumptuous melodies and Rouse's simple and crisp choice of lyrics. Rouse's 2003 break-through album 1972 was a splendid mi...

Sparrows Over Birmingham

I recently discovered this artist, though I believe he's been around a while. I've only heard 2 of his albums so far and he has been quite prolific over the last few years, so there is much too listen to (looking forward to his tour next month!). Anyway, this song reminded me of a friend, so I wanted to post it. Enjoy.

Kind of like when The Strokes released Is This It to critical acclaim, and then tried to precisely recreate it with Room on Fire. If there’s one thing I’m sure of about Josh Rouse, it’s that [...]

Josh Rouse Retrospective

"Every time I've made a record, I've tried to make it different from the last one. I always become fascinated by a different style of music. But at the end of the day, no matter how eclectic I try to make it, it's my voice and melodic sensibility that tie things together."-Josh Rouse, liner notes forThe Best of the Rykodisc YearsI've been meaning to write about Josh Rouse's The Best of the Ryko...

Josh Rouse is a relative unknown but nonetheless is a quality songwriter and musician. If you've ever heard his music, you'd know that his style will keep you hooked through the whole album. His lyrics are always interesting and the music never fails. Personally, I prefer 1972, his album in which he leans toward a more vintage sound. His other two albums, Subtítulo and Nashville are also gre..

PHW's Albums of the Decade - Addendum, pt. 2

Three weeks ago I posted a list of my 50 favorite albums of the past decade. You can catch up with that here, here, here, here, and here, if you’d like. While drafting the list I found that I rediscovered plenty of albums that were and are still worthy of more attention, even though they ultimately weren’t included on the finished product. It was extremely difficult to cut many of them, especi
