Josh Ritter, one of the finest songwriters America has ever known, is playing a show in Little Rock tonight! If you can't tell, I'm super stoked about seeing him live for the first time.
If you're not familiar with Josh, here's the skinny. His lyrics are pure poetry in the most literal meaning of the word. Think Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, and Springsteen's Nebraska. Give the guy a listen, and I guarantee he will light a fire in your soul.

It's been racking up the plays for months and now barely I day goes by when I don't listen to it. Hell, it even inspired me to put some of my gig photos into a rather pathetic fan vid. Saw Josh Ritter a couple of nights ago at the Shepherd's Bush Empire in London. (Much gratitude to Joxley for putting me onto this.) Saw Josh Ritter in La Boule Noire last night. Unfortunately because of the transport strikes the place was only a third full. A great show anyway, songs new and old, a few velib jokes and audience participation in the form of cricket noises.

This (below) is the only Josh Ritter song that I recorded. Great sweet song, and was nicely inserted into the middle of a show that included a mix of high energy music and quiet acoustic ballads. Josh reminds me a lot of Ryan Adams. He's an accomplished acoustic guitar player and has the ability to rock out, and mellow out. There's little else to say: Bruce Springsteen's most brutal ballad, so broken & real, presented here, solemnly, in Josh Ritter's humble & familiar warmth. As lovely as hopelessness gets.

More melodic, musical and lyrical hooks in this one tune than most artists can create in an entire album.
