Allow me to briefly rhapsodize about my home. (ha! rhapsodize! get it?) Ahem. Yesterday it started snowing at 1 pm. Traffic was completely gridlocked by about 2. Happy New Year everyone! Hey, ever wonder why Jonathan Richman ran for the hills after recording great songs like "she cracked" and "hospital" and "pablo picasso"? Me too! That first album has such great stuff on it and it arguably was a driving force in the earliest of punk days: my old buddy Chuck Vaughan called it "proto-punk" when he first turned me on to it many years ago. The biting sarcasm and wit certainly gives Elvis Costello's same talents a run for his money... MORE

My friend Juliet introduced me to this song. She's always pulling wonderful tunes out of her eclectic bag of musical goodies.
Just seems to be one of those songs you can have on repeat and never tire of...

Richman performed with his trusty sidekick, the drummer Tommy Larkins, to an audience of about 120. If you haven't caught him live before, I'm not sure I can describe it to you briefly. If you have, this was business as usual. Not quite as good a show as I saw a few years ago, but his little improv, dance, and percussion bits were reliably entertaining and the "official" lyrics were interspersed with funny tales in Engl... I was delighted to see that Jonathan Richman will be touring again this year...there is something within his joie de vivre that is so thrilling to watch and listen to. The last time I saw him (2005) the room was packed and rockin'. I can only hope that he will dance and play with all of his childlike abandon as always before!

I saw Jonathan Richman for one of his unique concert in Paris at the Trabendo (oct 17th), I was waiting for an outstanding show...never had the chance to see him before. I was looking forward to this exceptional night, it started nice and easy, with some nice ballads, I loved in "In che mondo viviamo"...Jonathan magnetism on stage just enchanting.... Some of the crowd must have been dissapointed not to hear his great hits of the Modern lovers. Too bad the concert la... MORE

Although he's been around for a minute beforehand, many were introduced to Jonathan Richman's musings as the musical filler between sequences of the Farrelly Brothers' film There's Something About Mary but one listen to Not So Much to Be Loved as to Love, and you'll find many reasons to continue doing so. "My Baby Love Loves Me" is catchy in an acoustic Ziggy Stardust kind of way and "In Che Mondo" sounds like a Gipsy Kings outtake gone all kinds of wrong but in a good way... MORE
