Following my last post up in quick succession (though not as quickly as some of y'all do... got dang!), here's another one of my favorite covers and while I looked it up and a video version has been posted (see the respective artist's page), an mp3 version has not. It's yet another famous song ingrained into the consciousness of American music... and that tune is Sir Mix-a-Lot's 1992 ode to the ...

Getting into JoCo

I've recently gotten in Jonathan Coulton's music and I must say that I have become a fan. My journy to Jonathan's music was a culmination of the fact that I have gotten pretty tired of most "serious" music with lyrics. It just seems like most music with lyrics that I have been listening to lately are just trying too hard to be deep or on the opposite end, I find a lot of lyrics contrite. I c...

Code Monkey

Most people who know about Jonathan Coulton have heard of him because of his cover of Baby Got Back. His version is well-done, but the folked-out rap song in general is a bit of a gimmick. I like this track of his much better, it comes more from himself and his experience in his former job as a programmer.

B Day

The B today stands not for "Beyonce" but for "birth," and in addition to it being international Labor Day and May Day in the former Soviet States, May 1 also marks the start of another season, well illustrated here by Jonathan Coulton.Other notable May 1 babies:* Ray Parker Jr* John Woo * Wes AndersonIt is also the day the cans of pineapple (and the protagonist's love) expire in my favorite mov...

I'm done trying to use MoM. Way back in October, rock or death asked for people who were willing to try out the latest Mac client. I happily signed up, hoping to see if the new version addressed some of issues I had with MoM. I worked with below for the next couple of weeks. I was having some issues with my MoM that were hard to reproduce. I tried my hardest to give below all of the information...

I assume pretty much everyone here has heard about Jonathan Coulton. If not, let me enlighten you: A bit more than a year a go, he started a project called "Thing A Week" - his plan was to release a self-written and -performed song every week for the next year. About 2 weeks ago, he released the last song - a mix of Queen's "We Are The Champions" and "We Will Rock You". The resulting album is ...

Here's a sample of one of the artists mentioned in the list above. Funny and soul-achingly tuneful. His voice could melt ice. Anyway, he's touring again in the spring. You can catch him at Schubas in Chicago in May, with Paul and Storm opening for him. "Here's his site.":http://www.jonathancoulton.com

Concert Review: Jonathan Coulton

A couple weeks ago, I got to see a favorite singer of mine, Jonathan Coulton. Coulton is one of the leading singers in the small geek-folk/rock field. Like nerdcore music, this isn't any different than the overall genre, but he sings with a number of themes that fall within geek/nerd fandom. His concert, opened by Paul and Storm (who were in and of themselves quite funny), was a fun and highly ...
