I was first introduced to Jonatha Brooke's music when I heard "Nothing Sacred" on a compilation cd. I've been a big fan since then. I've seen her in concert three times, but she hasn't come back to Atlanta in forever, so it's been a while. She uses such interesting tunings and has a beautiful voice. She is so underrated....again - the music business officially sucks because a great artist l...
I was reminded of a few debates on MOG about TV themes - the good and the bad - as I watched an episode of Joss Whedon's latest series, "Dollhouse," on Friday night. (For the uninitiated, Whedon is the cult-adored creator/mastermind behind the genre shows "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel" and "Firefly.") This is the song, heard on WXPN in Philadelphia, that got me into Jonatha Brooke (not literally, unfortunately). It's a gorgeous cover of "Eye In The Sky", with a much more intimate feel, that blows the original out of the water. If you've never heard Jonatha, and are familiar with the original, hit PLAY now.
Jonatha Brooke covering The Alan Parsons Project's "Eye In The Sky". In my opinion, the song is an absolutely beautiful song, at it's core. But when overproduction causes the song to be buried in a swath of extra-instrumentation, the beauty is inherently lost. Johnatha, strips all of that away and gives us a beautiful, naked version of the song. Enjoy.
This is an outstanding song off the new Jonatha Brooke album -- The Works. She wrote the music with Woody lyrics. She's backed by Steve Gadd on drums, Joe Sample on keyboards, Christian McBride on bass with guests Derek Trucks, Glen Phillips, Eric Bazilian and Keb' Mo'.You can debate the originality of the idea, but not the quality of this and a few of the other tracks.
