This is off the Experimental Remixes EP when a few mid 90's alternative types remixed tracks off the JSBX's Orange LP.This first Blues Explosion Remix, Flavor pt. 1, was done by Beck, pt. 2 was remixed by Mike D. Moby, Killah Priest (Wu-tang), Dub Narcotic, and UNKLE also remixed for the project. Some mad cap fun for you this Friday, I feel Lee Perry's specter all over this.
jon spencer is a freakin' genius. his creativity is unparalleled. crazy r&b. he totally reminds me of howlin' wolf. crazy howls. I put Jon Spencer and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Blues Explosion on random shuffle, and all this crazy music is different. He's definitely not rehashing his own sound. I mean, there are certain characteristics that jump out, but it's all crazy different.
If you love quality concert posters, in the vein of Frank Kozik's legendary style, then you will probably love the eye candy that Niek Schutter and Ricky Van Durren have compiled for you. It's called Rockin' On Paper, and it's a collection of vibrant concert posters from the Vera Club in Groningen, Netherlands. The Vera website describes it best :Rockin on Paper' is a 320 pages full color hi...
A little Mog love for the JSBX. This is quite representative of their early punkish groove-blues style, complete with unintelligible lyrics. In the end you get what they were trying to say, pretty much nothing except that their lives are pretty cool. What a great drummer!
God, the used section at Stinkweeds is a constant risk to my financial well-being. So while I listen to a load of older records, a few new ones, and watch a bit of "The Middleman" and contemplate trying to start watching "Weeds", have a bit of Blues explosion.
When i am on a long car trip i usually throw all my cds into the car and pick them at random, not looking at them as they go into the cd player- Sure there are is plenty of gold there(they are my music collection after all), but every now and then you hit a something special. This is one of the purest simplest enjoyable ROCK 'N' ROLL albums made in the last 10 years-Just good honest fun.
Hi All,Am working up a two-part story called AT THE CROSSROADS, based on 1999 encounters backstage and partying at the Byron Bay Blues Festival with Jon Spencers Blues Explosion and R.L. Burnside (sadly gone from us) in Australia.Hope you are going to like it. Do stay tuned folks, as they say in the commercials!
MOG is busy, right now, it seems - people must be getting back from their night out on their various towns. I feel like the guy who's been in the dorm studying on a Friday night while everybody else is out at the pubs. The kids are in bed and I'm enjoying the quiet. I'm just checking posts and listening to JSBE (another post made me think about some tracks that I hadn't heard in awhile). My...
To spice up my mog i set about writing a list of musical 'guilty pleasures', only to find that i am unrepentent for my tastes. "Come on!" i thought, "There must be something i'm at least mildly embarrassed about" - alas, nothing. Is this a vice or a virtue? Does it make me honest or shameless?
Billboard has the news that Shout Factory will be resurrecting the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion with a best-of compilation and an expanded reissue series starting next spring. "There isn't going to be tons and tons of unreleased stuff," Spencer...
This is my first post in a REALLY long time (I forgot my mog password...oops!) so I thought I'd come back and introduce you to one of my all time favorites. They've been around a while - put on a great live show - definitely worth listening to if you're in the mood for a funky blues/rockabilly sound. Enjoy!!
A long time ago I didn't know what a remix was. A long time ago, most of us didn't have the internet, and some things remained a mystery that required further investigation. Often times lots of dead ends and reading a lot of different music mags (at a price) to get straight answers.I actually discovered JSBE through the remix album "Experimental Remixes" and James Lavelle's "Bellbottoms (U.N....
