This is a periodic feature in which I post on AWT the top albums and debuts in the airplay charts from Americana Music Assoc., XM Cross Country and FMQB Non-Commercial Adult Alternative chart. I haven't posted the charts in six weeks because there was not a ton of movement for a while. Now that here have been a rash of Spring releases things are shaken up a bit. Links to all of these charts are...
John HiattSame Old ManI have to admit that I approached this CD not knowing much about John Hiatt except that he had written tunes for the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, Roseanne Cash and Three Dog Night. In my own closed-minded musical world, sandwiched somewhere in between Dylan and the Beatles, I had always considered him to be just another singer/songwriter. But that's not quite the s...
This post was inspired by mtackabery(Michelle, my wonderful triplet sis)who posted the Emmy Lou Harris cover of John Hiatt's song "Icy Blue Heart"(which you can hear on her post "here":http://mog.com/mktackabery/blog_post/75939 ). Emmy's version is beautiful but John's original version just exudes so much world weariness in his voice. It's sparse instrumentation really lends itself to that worl...
Last night (3/7), I had the great pleasure of seeing "Lyle Lovett":http://www.losthighwayrecords.com/lylelovett, "John Hiatt":http://www.johnhiatt.com, "Joe Ely":http://www.joeely.com and "Guy Clark":http://www.guyclark.com in concert together - just the four singer-songwriters and their guitars, all acoustic-like, with no band. They're calling this their "Songwriters' Tour," although Clark has...
Help, oh wise moggers.. I'm tying the knot in January.. and no, you're not invited, small ceremony only.. sorry.. but I could use some help. We're putting together a power-point kind of thing with pictures and music, and I'm looking for your thoughts on the best love songs that are a little out of the mainstream.. I really like John Hiatt's, "Have a Little Faith in Me".. and Sarah MacLachla...
It seems that it's New York Times day at Ranch Twang; the paper features a nice write up on legendary singer/songwriter John Hiatt whom they talked to just before he shared the stage with Lyle Lovett in Greenville, South Carolina. Is McCain supporter John Rich, the shorter, and more homophobic half of Country Music comedy duo [...]

I've been digging John Hiatt since his new wave days in the early '80s. He's got a new album that I like a lot called "Same Old Man," which I guess is his way of sayin' that on this new album you get the same tried and true great John Hiatt music he's been delivering for quite a long time, only it's a new batch of excellent songs. This one, "Old Days," gives you a good idea of what he's up to. ...
Tonight's entry in my ongoing quest to increase the MOG's exposure to John Hiatt's excellent is "Perfectly Good Guitar”, from the 1993 album by the same title. This cut is a great bit of hard rocking social commentary with a catchy chorus to boot...
My pick for this Sunday Under Cover is John Hiatt covering the Joey Ramone favorite "I Wanna Be Sedated". For some oddball reason, I like it...(is that a mandolin in the background?)Yeah!
