Soooo, I don't know if you guys heard but John's Automatic Writing II was pushed back to April 17. Although I did find out that he has at least two other albums in the works. The first and soonest to come out "Solo X" as in his tenth solo work, this ,of course isn't the final name just a working cover, it is said that it will contain at least 14 songs although he had 17. Wikipedia goes on to sa...
John Frusciante has pretty much seen and done it all. He's battled drug addiction, depression and almost killed himself on more than one occasion. He's in one of the biggest bands in the entire world (Red Hot Chilli Peppers for anyone who lives under a rock) and has frequently worked with countless big names, The Mars Volta probably being the most prominent.
Country Feedback is one of my favourite REM tracks, ever, and I've been a fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers for over 20 years now (ugh! I feel old!).To be pointed in the direction of this 2001 video of RHCP guitarist John Frusciante performing this REM song, was, eh, heavenly, to say the least. In all honesty, it turned out not the best possible rendition of this song I had ever imagined, but non...
If you love john's instrumental work, you're gonna love this one. I already posted Ramparts so the next instrumental one will probably be Poppy Man from Smiles From The Streets You Hold. The instrumental tracks made me name John the most intuitive/sensitive/textural/sinthetic/composer guitar player ever.
John Frusciante.... there's no other guitarist doing what he does. You know (automatically) it's a frusciante song when you hear it.Best guitar arrangement ever. It's curious (if you're a Yes/Steve Howe fan) that another simple beautiful guitar song is RAM from Steve Howe album Beginnings.
Seriously. Can someone wrangle John Frusciante and throw him in a white jumpsuit, a la the Gibb brothers? His cover of this song inspired me to buy the Bee Gees greatest hits on used vinyl. Are any of you familiar with some of the classic oldies he's covered? Fierce. Fierce.

And don't choose heroin. The first clip is a short movie made by Johnny Depp and Gibby Haynes from the Butthole Surfers. And the second is bunch of footage from a documentary made about him...and as I watch these, I can't believe he is still alive. I am not overstating this, it is a miracle he is alive. I am so happy that he was able to make such a total comeback...because he was gone.
I lived in Dallas for a while and learned to love the city, but that's a whole different story. I don't really know why I started out with that, but anyway...When I was in Dallas, I met Robert Wilonsky, who at the time was the pop/entertainment editor for D Magazine and the Dallas Observer (music and film/ entertainment weekly newspaper.) We got to talking and I was picking his brain on recen...
