Saw him last night at a small little venue called Kilby Court...he took us outside among the trees and a little pitfire, and with an acoustic guitar made a chilling sort of magic happen.
Check out video of John Vanderslice live from First Avenue, Minneapolis, MN, March 19th, 2008. Songs featured include: Kookaburra, Exodus Damage, The Tower, Underneath the Leaves, You Were My Fiji, and White Dove. http://scheduletwo.com/video/john_vanderslice
Tonight I am DJing at the Windmill in Brixton for John Vanderslice. I think the Windmill is going to be the most awesome venue to see him. North of the river can get fucked. Don't the cool kids know that everything worth going to is south south SOUTH? Anyway, for those of you who don't know John, he is all kinda of awesomeness. From Wikipedia "Vanderslice was a contributing producer on the Spoon album, Gimme Fiction, and has collaborated and toured with The Mountain ... MORE
This dude is way under appreciated. Sounds like a really nice show he just put on down the road at Duke. http://www.indyweek.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A161000Fans wiped sweat from brows and Vanderslice's shirt was soaked just two songs into his set, but the heat didn't disturb his charm at all. Jovial as ever, Vanderslice led fans (including his mother, plus Dan Bryk, David Karsten Daniels and The Rosebuds) through a career-spanning set, building energy as the audien... MORE

Sometimes the darkest of times allows for the best inspiration to write and give yourself an outlet. While you listen to "White Dove" you'l... MORE

Well this news just made my day. :) (from pitchforkmedia.com) San Francisco producer/songwriter John Vanderslice will release his sixth solo full-length via Barsuk on July 24. Titled Emerald City in reference to Baghdad's Green Zone (though we're not entirely sure why), Vanderslice wrote the majority of the record during a still-unresolved legal struggle with U.S. Immigration over obtaining a visa for his girlfriend, a French citizen he met in Paris. Emerald City i... MORE
