This interview has been in the works for a long time, with lots of starts and stops. I didn't think it was ever going to happen, actually, but it did. It's mostly about Newsom's EP from last spring and how she went from the elaborate orchestrations of Ys to the more stripped down live-ish sound. A three song E.P., Joanna Newsom and the Ys Street Band, will be released on April 24 on Drag City. The E.P. will include a new song, "Colleen," and new versions of two previously released songs, "Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie," which appeared in its original form on The Milk-Eyed Mender, and "Cosmia," a version of which appeared on Ys. Photo by Pete Newsom. Newsom will be touring Europe in April, beginnin with an appearance at the Olympia in Dublin, Ireland on April 14.... MORE
