I was browsing around e-bay, searching for Milk Eyed Mender on vinyl, when I found out that Joanna Newsom is featured in this months Papermag. She's even on the cover as part of a "65 Beautiful People" spread. I went to the magazines website, and they have an interview, as well as some videos of her. Here are some pictures from that photo shoot. Oh, Joanna. How I love thee.

Hey everyone. I'm new to this MOG world, and I hope you accept me like you would any other MOGger. How'd I end here? My friend, Ivy told me about this site, and what it consisted of. It sounded exactly like the kind of community site that I would want to be a part of. If MySpace is the FYE or Tower Records of the internet, then this is that wonderful side-entrance dive record store that I would frequent. Let's go with a name like "Disc-Connection" or "The Spin Z... MORE

Joanna Newsom will join the Brooklyn Philharmonic for a magical one-night-only performance on February 1st! For 2 hours, Newsom will sing with BP musicians and Music Director Michael Christie, opening the 2008 Spring Season for the Phil. The unique combo will perform her 2006 album Ys which will be followed by a set with her band. According to the "official info" that I found on HARP Mag:
Founded last year, the BP Presents series is the brainchild of Brooklyn Philharm

"We sailed away on a winter's day
with fate as malleable as clay;
but ships are fallible, I say,
and the nautical, like all things, fades And I can recall our caravel:
a little wicker beetle shell
with four fine maste and lateen sails,
its bearings on Cair Paravel O my love,
O it was a funny little thing
to be the ones to've seen. The sight of bridges and balloons
makes calm canaries irritable;
they caw and claw all afternoon:

That's write, I do not have any doubt: Joanna Newsom is the most interesting female artist from the beggining of the 21st century! As an incredible singer, amzing harp player and an orignal and inovative composer, she has all the qualities for her name to live on many decades and, for me in particular, genarations. My sons will certainly hear her work!And there sons too!
She's young and talented, I'm really gonna watch out her carreer closely.
This is Joanna performing "Mon... MORE

Autumn is creeping in slowly and with some hesitation. The temperature soars to 80 then slips low to 40 or less in a matter of days, hours, minutes. It brings with it sniffles and a craving for Jeremy Enigk and Joanna Newsome.

This Sunday, during a concert in Porto Alegre, Brazil Joanna Newsom gave fans a treat when she performed a new song. The name of the tune hasn't been revealed yet, but one of the fans took an excellent video of the performance. Newsom's distinct voice coupled with the graceful sounds of the harp should be enough to wow you, check it out:

This interview has been in the works for a long time, with lots of starts and stops. I didn't think it was ever going to happen, actually, but it did. It's mostly about Newsom's EP from last spring and how she went from the elaborate orchestrations of Ys to the more stripped down live-ish sound. Here's the intro, follow the jump to the actual Q&A: I first saw Joanna Newsom 2004, filling the middle slot between Vetiver and Devendra Banhart on the magical "churc... MORE

At 11:15 p.m. on a Friday night in a valley in Wales, the security guards have given up maintaining a gap between the crowd and the stage, people are pushing and wheedling their way into any gap they can find, trying to get an optimum view of the set. Neal Morgan has been on stage and set up his drum kit, the banjo and violin are ready to go, the monitors and stool are in position, but something's missing. There's a great big harp-shaped void on stage. Hmm. Jus... MORE

Following in the footsteps of the Decemberists before her, Joanna Newsom will be joined by the 28-piece Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on November 9th.
The performance will feature arrangements written by Van Dyke Parks, a frequent Brian Wilson collaborator. Parks has worked on The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds and Brian Wilson's Smile.
The LA Philharmonic performance will not be her only foray with the orchestra pit. Newsom will play th... MORE

After seeing her name pop up over and over in various articles and interviews, I finally decided to give her a listen. Human words can't fully describe the sound of her music, so I'll let the video do the talking: some additional reading... MORE

I really like Joanna Newsom in a kinda Coco Rosie kinda way. I got to see some of her show at All Tomorrow's Parties earlier this year and it was pretty sweet. She sings in a weird childlike voice that would normally make me want to punch something, but I don't seem to mind her at the moment. Though, I expect I will be tired of it fairly soon. At the moment, i am enjoying this song.... MORE

Whilst working in my office, a sparrow flew into my window, quite hard. I went outside, and he was lying there, badly injured, fighting to breathe. I picked him up, and he just lay there in my hand. In the words of Joanna Newsom... -- Last week our picture window produced a half-word
heavy and hollow, hit by a brown bird
we stood and watched her gape like a rattlesnake
and pant and labour over every intake I said a sort of prayer for some sort of rare g... MORE
