9 Stars out of TenReared on a mixture of Mormonism and folk music, Jesca Hoop has since lived in the wilderness of Arizona’s homesteads and served as a nanny for Tom Waits. Now her debut album Kismet sees all the influences synergized into an off-balance cacophony, a collection of tunes still half-wild, dancing through the outskirts of the forest with a restless sense of freedom. _Summertime_ .
Here's a darling video from Jesca Hoop that I found wilst trolling the YouTube earlier today... wish I had thought to put this in the post from yesterday... but ah well, two for the price of... well... *TWO* !!!
Jesca Hoop used to be Nanny for Tom Waits kids. Now she's got an album out, and a great quote from Waits: "Jesca Hoop's music is like a four-sided coin. She is an old soul, like a black pearl, a good witch or a red moon. Her music is like going swimming in a lake at night."Looks like a young soul to me.Here's a song off her new album.
a new music drunk discovery of mine. a mixture of infectious glee and a flashback sommersault into the 1920's, jesca hoop is very much fitting into my caffeine-dependent tuesday. she is post-modern folk with a quirky edge, with a hula-hoop.let's play.lucy.
Traveling is tiring. Especially when your flight is delayed by 3-ish hours and you get home in the wee hours of the morning. I blame this for my lack of eloquence and usual lengthy but informative musical chatter on this mog post.Jesca Hoop. Former nanny of Tom Waits. Nice little pop song. The end.
Some kind of magical perfectness chilling one to the bone… a soft, daisy-perfumed summer wind blowing in your ears…a fresh grass smell you can’t stop breathing in… an exotic-obscure sensation having you hypnotized the moment she enters your world… What to say? What to write more to describe her? Nothing probably, after hearing her image from Tom Waits’ master eyes; "Jesca Hoop's music
Jesca Hoop's debut Kismet is out by September 18th. Go, grab it! It's otherworldy fantabuloustic!!!This is how Tom Waits describes her music:"Jesca Hoop's music is like a four sided coin. She is an old soul, like a black pearl, a good witch or a red moon. Her music is like going swimming in a lake at night."
It was a weirdly warm day here in Chicago today as my younger son and I "L" and bussed it to the Adler Planetarium. For some reason the day had a feeling of vaudeville in it for me and this song fits like a violet kidskin glove.
Her music is layered with sweet melodies and sober realities. She is a singer songwriter which may instantly give you a picture of just another girl on stage with an acoustic guitar and a prayer, but once the song starts to emerge from Jesca Hoop, all conventions of her genre classification melt away.Since a posting about Jesca Hoop cannot be published without the mention that she was once a na...
I saw Jesca Hoop open for Mark Kozelek a while back and have been trying to see her solo shows since then. I finally get that chance on Nov. 30th. Woo! I hope she plays Havoc in Heaven, that's me favorite.
