a new music drunk discovery of mine. a mixture of infectious glee and a flashback sommersault into the 1920's, jesca hoop is very much fitting into my caffeine-dependent tuesday. she is post-modern folk with a quirky edge, with a hula-hoop.

It was a weirdly warm day here in Chicago today as my younger son and I "L" and bussed it to the Adler Planetarium. For some reason the day had a feeling of vaudeville in it for me and this song fits like a violet kidskin glove.

Jesca Hoop used to be Nanny for Tom Waits kids. Now she's got an album out, and a great quote from Waits: "Jesca Hoop's music is like a four-sided coin. She is an old soul, like a black pearl, a good witch or a red moon. Her music is like going swimming in a lake at night."
Looks like a young soul to me.

Traveling is tiring. Especially when your flight is delayed by 3-ish hours and you get home in the wee hours of the morning. I blame this for my lack of eloquence and usual lengthy but informative musical chatter on this mog post.
