The last of Jerry Reed's major hits are included on The Bird, an album that encompasses his usually variety of novelties, love songs, and uniquely slick, funky country. His remake of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Down on the Corner" falls into the latter category, while "She Got the Goldmine (I Got the Shaft)" is a quintessential Jerry Reed novelty and his final number one hit. "The Bird" was also a substantial hit and features decent impressions of Willie Nelson and George Jones, and "I'm a Slave" -- sort of a sequel to his "Another Puff" from 1972 -- gave Reed his final Top 100 charter. When Jerry Reed is hot, he's hot, and despite some lesser moments, about half of The Bird really smokes.
