Jerry Reed passed away this week. A brief note was made here on the MOG. I'd like to mark his passing with a curiously timely track from almost 35 yrs ago.

Country singer, songwriter and guitarist, and sometime actor, Jerry Reed passed away today due to complications from emphysema.
He was most well known for performing "Eastbound and Down," the theme song from the Burt Reynolds outlaw film 'Smokey and the Bandit ,' one of the movies in which he also starred.
He was 71 years old.

THIS MAN CREATED HIS OWN GENRE OF MUSIC. "Country Funk," I like to call it - hell, ya can't call it anything else. The dude created Country Funk, rode Country Funk like a bull with a white-hot ball-peen hammer up its wazoo, destroyed Country Funk, and then went on a beer run with Burt Reynolds...a beer run that continues to this very day. ATTENTION! ATTENTION MUST BE PAID TO SUCH A MAN!!!
