Thanks to TyleDurden ; "you ever think about writing kids books or something (I'm sure you could write adult books, it just seems like you are so good with kids :))anyway -> TD out", I am now looking into two books - one is still my own style of memoir... a music/friend memory book that helps to explain who I am & why... but now I am talking with a very talented artist friend of mine who actual...
Right now... 4:30 can't come soon enough - I am listening to *Jellyfish's Russian Hill* & I just want to be behind the wheel of my car drivin home...Sure, I am trying my best not to go above the speed limit - not for the sake of safety - for the sake of gas... it cost me $50 to fill up late last week & I want to conserve that expensive elixir that makes cars go.But were it not for the cost, wer...
Jellyfish was a power pop wonder, whose influence still rings through the genre today. Not Lame put out a 4-CD Jellyfish box set a few years ago - quite the endeavor for a group who only released 2 CDs before they broke up.The opening track of their CD "Spilt Milk" was a mostly a capella number called "Hush" which, for some reason, they kind of mucked up with silence, sound effects and god-know...
Nobody's perfect, especially pop stars. A rush of creativity might mean that details get overlooked, and remain uncorrected. Here's a few examples of things gone slightly awry in some of our favourite music. I'm working on a bigger magazine piece along these lines, so if any Mogger has additional suggestions I'd be very interested to hear about them.*DAVID BOWIE : Life On Mars*Turn up the volume...
Found this live clip of Jellyfish from BBC Later... with Jools Holland 14th May 1993.It got me thinking about musicians who sing and drum at the same time. Anyone out there got any other examples?
I use to like this band, in spite of their goofy garb. The singer had a great voice, the songs were poppy....with a bit of darkness hidden away in the lyrical content. Just good pop music. This is one of those bands people in the biz thought were gonna take off big time. It just never happened. I think it's cause their videos sucked....and maybe because of that, people just thought they were so...
Polarizing! Recent reports that a Townsman scored a $2 used copy of Jellyfish's Bellybutton album immediately brought to mind the image of the front desk of Rock Town Hall's dream record store, where we would keep a bin of Polarizing Platters , records that cause Townspeople to immediately take sides, in even numbers, pro and con the music value of each album. We would keep this bin at the fron...
I won't go into detail in extolling its virtues. It's simply one of the greatest albums of all time. Every piece of it fits so well.http://zenandjuice.com/music/jellyfish/http://www.myspace.com/jellyfishband
Jellyfish - Hollywood CA - 10/??/1990 [zip file]Jellyfish is one of my all time favorite bands and they are responsible for putting out two of what I consider to be the greatest albums ever recorded, Bellybutton and Spilt Milk. Jellyfish was a band that was way ahead yet at the same time behind their time. They were retro before there was even a term for it. They looked like a 1960’s cartoo.
Jellyfish - Live at The Catalyst - 08/02/1991 MP3s [zip file]It's really a shame that there is such a small amount of "live stuff" out there for Jellyfish. Anyone who is a Jellyfish fan and who has seen the band live knows what a powerful force this band was. Jellyfish had the ability to craft a pop song that packed such a powerful punch that by the time you knew what hit you, you were smilin...
