The last time Jeff Tweedy performed in Arizona, it was in Tucson and I missed it due to the fact my daughter had just been born. I was bummed to be missing one of my favorite bands (Girzzly Bear opened for them also!) but what could I do? Fortunately for me, Wilco front man Jeff Tweedy will be bringing his solo show to the Orpheum Theatre in Phoenix this December. Not quite as good as gettin...
Jay Bennett's sudden tragic passing not only marked the loss of one of the most talented musicians and producers around, but it also left the issues between Bennett and his former band Wilco sadly unresolved. Bennett's former bandmate and...
Anyone who’s seen I Am Trying to Break Your Heart, the uncomfortably revealing documentary on the making of Wilco’s 2001 breakthrough Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, knows that Jay Bennett’s departure from the band wasn’t exactly amicable. Well, now the tense...
By now, you've all heard about the fabled, *mind-boggling* soundtrack to the new Dylan biopic _I'm Not There_. Well, a couple tracks have made their way to the movie's MySpace page, and I am impressed. Actually....my jaw is around here somewhere. Let me see... Oh here it is, on the floor.Be sure to check outJeff Tweedy - Simple Twist Of FateJim James and Calexico - Goin' To AcapulcoCat Power -...

Five or six tunes into Friday night’s Jeff Tweedy solo concert at The Calvin Theatre in Northampton, I started to think we were catching Tweedy on a non-chatty night. Perhaps we would not receive the signature banter you come to expect from his solo shows. The closest he had come to being witty was sneaking the word Northampton as a lyric change to the show-opening Spiders (Kidsmoke) which made .
This is for my friend Pablo, whose birthday it is today. Pablo introduced me to Neutral Milk Hotel a couple of years ago. Pablo's introduced me to lots of things music-related, like MOG and emusic and Myspace for starters. I blame him completely for the extra year it's going to take me to finish my PhD! Pablo started a great forum for musicians in Nashville to write about what inspires their wr...
last nite i watched "sunken treasure," a dvd chronicling a jeff tweedy solo tour of the northwest (for those not in the know, tweedy fronts the band, wilco). i was lulled to sleep in the first ten minutes, which is actually a compliment for once. today i was able to finish it and it was pretty wonderful. if every band had banter like his, i might be inclined to go to shows more often. the guy i...
So, about a week or two ago I purchased Sunken Treasure: Live In The Pacific Northwest. This DVD is a compilation of songs performed by Jeff Tweedy (of Wilco) over his February 2006 acoustic tour of five different venues in the pacific northwest (Seattle’s Moore Theater, Portland’s Crystal Ballroom, Eugene’s McDonald Theater, Arcata’s Humboldt State University, and The Fillmore in San Fran
Jeff Tweedy continues his excellence as he puts out his first batch of bearded uncle campfire songs. In his new DVD "Sunken Treasure" he runs through both Wilco and Uncle Tupelo classics as well as a few new gems. One of those that sticks out to me is "The Thanks I Get". Tweedy is having fun with this song and it is evident. If anyone has seen the Wilco documentary "I Am Trying To Break You...
We all need an anthem every now and again don't we? At least I know I do...this one is mine at the moment...i have a date with the road less traveled...
OK, so personally, I've had quite a few "quiet" concerts ruined by talkers...an Ani Difranco show comes to mind. She requested the amplification to be minimal (which I can understand), and a majority of the people that PAID to go and see her (and not PAID as in 5 bucks, but more like 35 bucks) chose to spend the entire show talking as loudly as possible, as if they were competing with Ms. DiF...
Is is SO dreary here...calling for even more slightly sad, introspective music today...til at least 6, then the Ohio State comes on and life has we know it in Columbus,OH shuts down...here is my favorite song of the Billy Bragg/Wilco/Woody Guthrie project Mermaid Ave.
