I had a buddy of mine that I worked with in San Antonio whom we all called Dirty. It was his nickname because that’s the word that used to describe everything. Instead of say hey that band is cool, he’s say…they're "dirty." But it was in a good way. Everything and everyone was Dirty. By now, you've all heard about the fabled, mind-boggling soundtrack to the new Dylan biopic _I'm Not There_. Well, a couple tracks have made their way to the movie's MySpace page, and I am impressed. Possibly one of the best songwriters of my generation (can i say that?) as far as pop and folk/country go. Also the recipient of two Grammy Awards for Wilcos fifth studio album A Ghost Is Born, including Best Alternative Music Album. driving over my favorite bridge this morning with this song playing. this is my friday as i have tomorrow off. the world seems a bit more beautiful this morning. perhaps my sad mood has passed, or maybe i just let it fly off over that bridge as i was singing along. either way, i'm smiling right now.

In trying to set psyched up for the new Wilco record I thought it would be fun to throw together a mix of various Tweedy stuff from over the years...I'm already digging the new stuff they are steaming on wilcoweb... While putting this compilation together I realized that it has been seventeen years since Uncle Tupelo's No Depression came out. If that doesn't impress you think about what year it was seventeen years before that...Definitely seems like a different lifetime ... MORE

This is for my friend Pablo, whose birthday it is today. Pablo introduced me to Neutral Milk Hotel a couple of years ago. Pablo's introduced me to lots of things music-related, like MOG and emusic and Myspace for starters. I blame him completely for the extra year it's going to take me to finish my PhD! Jeff Tweedy continues his excellence as he puts out his first batch of bearded uncle campfire songs. In his new DVD "Sunken Treasure" he runs through both Wilco and Uncle Tupelo classics as well as a few new gems. One of those that sticks out to me is "The Thanks I Get". Tweedy is having fun with this song and it is evident. If anyone has seen the Wilco documentary "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart", Jeff Tweedy certainly came off as a moody bastard who is hard to be ar... MORE

So, about a week or two ago I purchased Sunken Treasure: Live In The Pacific Northwest. This DVD is a compilation of songs performed by Jeff Tweedy (of Wilco) over his February 2006 acoustic tour of five different venues in the pacific northwest (Seattle’s Moore Theater, Portland’s Crystal Ballroom, Eugene’s McDonald Theater, Arcata’s Humboldt State University, and The Fillmore in San Francisco). last nite i watched "sunken treasure," a dvd chronicling a jeff tweedy solo tour of the northwest (for those not in the know, tweedy fronts the band, wilco). i was lulled to sleep in the first ten minutes, which is actually a compliment for once. today i was able to finish it and it was pretty wonderful. if every band had banter like his, i might be inclined to go to shows more often. the guy is also not a bad guitar player/songwriter. i netflixed it and was surprised to f...
