Welcome to the indie battles. This is where my not-really-obscure artists fight your not-really-obscure artists, battles matter more than their outcome, and there is no mercy. Hold your breath as managers are taken as prisoners and virgin PR girls are sacrificed to the muses. This will be a fight to the mainstream death. Take your seats, place your bets, and wait for the blood.Amy Winehouse VS ...
Some people just have no tolerance for genius. Garage-punk Jay Reatard found himself without a band after his boys apparently grew tired of being abused, kicked, urinated on, having fireworks thrown at them and belittled. Reatard announced the news through his own Twitter feed, he tweeted: "Band quit! Fuck them! They are boring rich kids who can’t play for shit anyways.
We all know that keeping a band together can be tough; we've all seen (and loved!) That Thing You Do, but now Jay Reatard knows firsthand that a band often functions as a collective, and that sometimes communal projects simply fall apart once Europe gets involved (like with Russia, for instance). While using Twitter, Jay Reatard had this to say: “Band quit! Fuck them! They are boring rich kids .
Jay Reatard announced yesterday via Twitter that his solo backing band had quit. Bassist Stephen Pope and drummer Billy Hayes confirmed to Pitchfork that they did quit the band. In his post he wrote: Band quit ! Fuck them ! They are boring rich kids who can't play for...Click the link to read more
Twitter outbursts sometimes speak the truth in 140 characters or less and the current truth in Jay Reatard’s life is that his band has ditched him. Or as the man without a band tweets:“Fuck them ! They are boring rich kids who can’t play for ahit anyways .. Say hello to your ugly and boring wifes opps I mean lifes guys suck it [.]”I hate rich kids too, Jay. That’s why I was hesitant to p
Here in this bedroom / Is where I sit / Cuz I dont really / Give a shit goes the first single (It Aint Gonna Save Me) from Jay Reatards Watch Me Fall. But giving a shit doesnt necessarily mean that Reatards bedroom time isnt productive. Judging by the whirlwind...
After months of speculation and a wildly successful singles collection, wily Memphis garage genius Jay Reatard has finally dropped his debut full-length for Matador. And, as expected, Watch Me Fall is the most poppy record he's released yet. By all counts, that's a very good thing. If playing sweaty, balls-out...
[08-22-2009] As an English major, I had my fair share of run-ins with words that had seen their meaning warped or distorted (if you're a positive person, you'd call it evolution). Apparently the great music “tour” has gone that way. The oddity of a three-location tour separated by roughly five hours of driving time aside, I headed over to Amoeba SF for Jay Reatard's in-store. If you live outsi
Memphis garage punker and Beck fan Jay Reatard stopped by the AOL studios to record some live clips and promote his Matador 7" singles series. Like many previously non-AOL-ready artists before him, he approaches it with a bit of ambivalence. The performances are pure Jay Reatard (minus the audience), but he caps off a great rendition of "Let It All Go" by giving the camera a fuck-you finger and...
Photo via WikipediaWhile Pop Montreal kicks off this week, it doesn't mark the end of the Canadian music festival calendar - that privilege goes to the Halifax Pop Explosion, set for October 21 through 25 in - you guessed it - Halifax. I've always looked for an excuse to go visit the Maritimes and Halifax in particular, and while that won't be happening this year - booked my flight to New Yor...
Tonight the shows pick up steam with a ton in the area. Here in Baltimore the Ottobar has a stellar line up with All The Saints, Eureka Birds, The Snowmen, and Northernmost, while Sonar has Casiotone For The Painfully Alone and No Kids. Down south in DC Jay Reatard and Cola Freaks play the Black [...]
Jay Reatard is a crazy man from Memphis. He's prolific, playing with seemingly a dozen bands over the years, notably the Reatards and the Lost Sounds, with even more releases. He's even got his own Wikipedia page. "Sea Saw" is a single from March of this year. Matador, his new home, is releasing a collection of six of his singles from this year on October 7th.www.matadorrecords.com www.jayreat...
Much is made (specifically on YouTube) of audience members' likelihood of getting kicked or punched from the stage at one of Jay Reatard's shows. DiS donned a crash helmet and went along to check him out...
