One album I missed this spring is James Hunter's The Hard Way , a delightful piece of late 50's - early 60's inspired soul. I've gotten into it recently (thanks to a personal reminder from Southside Johnny ), and it's just one of those albums that makes it hard to repress a smile. Hunter is clearly a Sam Cooke fanatic, and much of the The Hard Way has a lightness to it that reminds me of so...
Check out James Hunter and see what you think.http://www.jameshuntermusic.com/Here's the Daily OM Music Review for Hunter:People Gonna TalkJames Hunter 2006"A startling triple threat, British blue-eyed soulster James Hunter sings in thick, fluid tones, plays guitar with tight, bracing efficiency, and composes songs so effortless and soulful you’d think he did time in the Motown offices circa 19.
What a groove this CD is. Reminds me of Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson a little. It just has a lot of soul...old school soul if you will. The production is a little overcooked, it says it was done in an analog studio...hmm. Has a very sterile digital sound to it, but hell....still has big time groove.
British R&B singer James Hunter is the real deal. He's a tripple threat; a great songwriter, singer and guitarist. He's influenced by Sam Cooke, Van Morrison, Smokey Robinson, Ry Cooder and others. But he's still his own man. The great James Hunter. You can listen to portions of all the songs on his amazing 2006 album, People Gonna Talk, here:http://www.jameshuntermusic.com/base.html

Rhythm & blues and rock & roll are also strongly represented on his records. In the 80's James Hunter started his career as Howling Wilf and with the Vee...
