Can You Dig It? The Musicand Politics of Black ActionFilms 1969-75Pretty Cool, Eh?Excellent, 2CD collection of some of the best recordings from the early 70s blaxploitation film years. Just peruse the tracks and see what a top notch collection this is. From the some of the biggest names and better soundtracks to obscure, long-forgotten curios. Outstanding quality. Listen to "Shaft In Africa," b...
I particularly like one of the definitions of fodder."Raw material, as for artistic creation."Not more then a year ago I groused loudly about my place here on MOG and what I perceived as a right. Turns out it was a privilege.Being able to write something and place music along side of the words and the tone of the post is an absolute dream. Honestly it was what was keeping me here for the past f...
I was listening to the radio the other day when there was a call in for folks to talk about who Barack should pick for a running mate. In the middle of the back and forth, the host (Brian Lehrer- a fave of mine), held the calls, and said something like this: "Before we get involved with the horse race and policy discussions, can we just slow down, take a step back, and realize what an historic ...
I'm looking into charitable organizations that I would like to make a donation to.Any thoughts? One of my ideas was to start a mog charity to send a check off to Chris Pryors family or making a donation to some group in his name from all of us.Come to think of it we have have a bunch of people to make donations for. Sam's mom in law, Ivy's old prof, or even my cat Bingo.Truth is I don't even kno...
I'm writing some other shite right now but I thought I'd hit and run with what I got pumpin' out of my speakers for inspiration: James Brown's "In the Jungle Groove LP":http://www.thestore24.com/Music/Album.aspx?p_id=P+++++3779&a_id=R+++645423&search=in%20the%20jungle%20groove&sec=all%20music&prodid=PORB000047202.2&si=rhino ...this is one of the god father's phattest sets in my opinion. Fave cu...
I wanted to write something right off the top of my head the minute I heard about James Brown, maybe a guide to his music, or a personal story about how his music affected me, but I couldn’t. I needed a little time to let it sink in. My first thoughts, though, were about a book written by Greil Marcus, called Dead Elvis. Dead Elvis goes beyond the usual depictions of Elvis as a product of his.
The paperwork is ridiculously easy to fill out. I meet the requirements as laid out in the Constitution. So, Why not?Actually I was going to try to get on the write in ballot for New York, New Jersey, and of course Pennsylvania. My thinking is, what better way to understand the process than to go though it myself. I could campaign on MOG. Just think, you guys can say you know a Pres. candidate...
Talk last night of the posibility of a new Blaxploitation movie, soundtrack already chosen by Cody B, persuades me that it's time to dip into the soundtrack of "Black Caesar", released in 1973 when the blaxploitation movie cult was running out of steam, as kung fu epics produced by Run Run Shaw (Still with us, aged 100) became the late night movie of choice. Although not James Brown's finest ho...
Ok, so yes the man is dead there is no getting around that. While the legal battle of when, if ever, he will be burried continues, Hollywood has its own agenda on how to remember the man. Spike Lee has already signed on to direct the biopic of James Brown and plans to have it release in 2008. Now comes the question who is going to play the Godfather of Soul. From some of the articles I have rea...
Though I know some of you do not want to alienate me (I was told this. Come on people. It's my life. It cracks me up someone would vocalize it but I appreciate you saying it to me in writing!) because I tend to be very vocal on issues that are close to my heart, I still come to share my appreciation of you and to also open a door of communication for our differences.Race issues are hard to disc...
*To post this song.* James Brown has been covered on MOG well beyond my scope of knowledge. What is important is, I liked the man and many of the things he stood for ('cept abuse, robbery, and other criminal activity). His music makes me dance. And if you really knew me, that's a tough thing to do. Round my house, It's against all of the rules to talk louder than Mr. Charles and Mr. Brown is si...

Friday here and its looking to be a wonderful day here in Minnesota. Sun is out, and we are supposed to be hitting 90 degrees by Sunday. In addition it is funky fridays, and I am going to throw one out for the masses. While James Brown has been posted before on FF, this is one track I cant get enough of.
May 26, 2009 | A South Carolina judge approved a settlement Tuesday that gives nearly half of it to his charitable trust, about a quarter to his wife and young son, and the rest to Brown’s adult children.
