AMG Review of Bring It On!
William Ruhlmann
All Music GuideJames Brown moved to another small southern independent label for his first studio album in three years. The title track was an attempt to return to the funk of an earlier time, but elsewhere Brown contented himself to cover old standards: "Tennessee Waltz," "The Night Time Is the Right Time," and "Your Precious Love" (which he filled with nostalgic reminiscences). Clearly, he remained a talented performer, and just as clearly he didn't have any idea what to do as a recording artist.
