May 26, 2009 | A South Carolina judge approved a settlement Tuesday that gives nearly half of it to his charitable trust, about a quarter to his wife and young son, and the rest to Brown’s adult children.

A two-year battle over the estate of James Brown may finally be coming to an end on Friday in a Columbia, South Carolina court. It is expected that a judge will approve a settlement that would divide Brown's remaining assets and turn over the rights to his music and likeness. Half of the assets will go to a charitable trust to help educate his grandchildren and other needy students in South...

Last week I headed to SoHo to visit the recently opened Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in New York — definitely the best money I've spent in a while. From walking throughout three rooms of exhibits to watching a video of some of rock's biggest icons live in concert, not to mention an autograph room where each musician's signature lights up on the wall as their music is being played from speakers, t...

Though I know some of you do not want to alienate me (I was told this. Come on people. It's my life. It cracks me up someone would vocalize it but I appreciate you saying it to me in writing!) because I tend to be very vocal on issues that are close to my heart, I still come to share my appreciation of you and to also open a door of communication for our differences.Race issues are hard to disc...

"Info at Answers":http://www.answers.com/topic/messing-with-the-blues?cat=entertainment&nr=1When this hits in the shuffle, madness and a smile, for sure.Nothing soothes the soul sometimes like the swing in them chops and the sweetness of Maceo coming to the fore.RIP JB, you beautiful male siren dashing us all headfirst into that which is Funk.Get It!

The holidays are here, and I have yet to step foot in an established retail store, brave a "door buster" sale, or even think of buying people the perfect gifts that would suit them. You see, I'm one of those impossible people to buy presents for, and on top of that, I'm a bit of a doomed perfectionist. Ad to that the fact that I live on a limited budget. So every year I always set myself up f...

My first James Brown post!! Oddly enough, hes not singing on it. This track is from the instrumental based album The Popcorn which was the beginnings of an even stronger strain of funk that would continue into the 1970s. Its funk at its rawest and grooviest. Dig the bassline on this one. You'll have to move to this. RIP James.

When I mentioned that I had some exciting stuff I was sitting on that arrived while I was on vacation, this 3 DVD set was at the top of the list I was thinking of. It's titled I Got The Feelin': James Brown in the 60's , and quite simply, it's dynamite! The Hardest Working Man in Show Business, the Godfather of Soul, the King of Funk, Sex Machine, or Soul Brother Number One, call him what yo...

I was listening to the radio the other day when there was a call in for folks to talk about who Barack should pick for a running mate. In the middle of the back and forth, the host (Brian Lehrer- a fave of mine), held the calls, and said something like this: "Before we get involved with the horse race and policy discussions, can we just slow down, take a step back, and realize what an historic ...
