All Music GuideAlthough not quite as definitive a declaration of purpose as its title implies, The Jackie Paris Sound does manage to capture the singer's essential appeal and charm, reaffirming his status among the premier small-group singers of the postwar era. Teamed with players including guitarist Barry Galbraith, bassist Wendell Marshall, and drummer Joe Benjamin, Paris delivers a performance of unusual sophistication and subtlety, approaching songs like "I've Got a Pocketful of Dreams" and "This Year's Kisses" with disarming intimacy. His vocals never resort to melodrama or histrionics, yet they consistently reveal emotional truths that cut deep.
