AMG Review of Jack Teagarden and His All Stars
Scott Yanow
All Music GuideTaken from the same period (but not duplicating the music) of Jack Teagarden's Pumpkin LP, this Jazzology CD finds the trombonist leading one of his strongest groups, a band that also features many fine solos from cornetist Dick Oakley, clarinetist Jerry Fuller and pianist Don Ewell. Even on such tunes as "Someday You'll Be Sorry," "High Society" and "When the Saints Go Marching In," this very enjoyable sextet is able to play with enthusiasm and creativity, coming up with something fresh to say on songs the musicians had performed a countless number of times.
