Here is my favorite off of the new album. I love it, but in the interest of full disclosure, I am blinded by bias when it comes to Sam Beam. He is on that same pedestal where I keep Jack White,Jeff Tweedy, and a handful of other songwriters...I just don't think these guys would release something that wasn't great
For tonight, my goal is to post the LONGEST song ever in the history of MOGdom...dream big moggers, dream bigAnd don't worry, i wouldn't post a nine minute song unless it was great
This beautiful image from photographer, Ross Honeysett, reflects the passion and the longing from Bernard Sumner's words in this heartfelt cover of Love Vigilantes by Iron & Wine.
The chills hit me before the vocals did...Sam Beam has done it again. Listening to the new album 'The Shepherd's Dog' right now and loving every song...
Originally pressed as a B-side to the Postal Service's single, this Iron & Wine tune really started bending ears when it showed up on the soundtrack for Zach Braff's Garden State. A masterful cover, it trades Jimmy Tamborello's skittering, Nintendo beats for plaintive acoustic guitar chords and Ben Gibbard's sincere yelp for Sam Beam's hushed vocal.Beam's take not only explores the tenderness ...

The light is soft, with touch of salty grey. I wish I woke up at the ocean today. Here the weightless mist penetrates the morning meadows. Here the frantic commuters congest the roadway. Here we look not at the horizon soft and mellow. I wish I woke up at the ocean today. There vapor from the marshes would penetrate the beaches. With soft, comforting hands it reaches, over vast warm san...
Another treasure from my scared crove of covers is this beautiful rendition of New Order's Love Vigilantes by Iron & Wine. Plus, a bonus for my mogger amigos, since I posted Ryan's version, I have to add mp3 of Iron & Wine's cover of Always on my Mind.Always on my Mind {mp3} - Iron & Wineand here's a link to Love Vigilantes:Love Vigilantes {mp3} - Iron & Wine
A few days ago, I got into a conversation with a friend of mine about Iron & Wine. We both had been fans for years (me more than him) but for some reason he had never checked out last year's album, The Shepherd's Dog. As soon as he told me this, I told him how much I hated that album. I had listened 2 or 3 times before deciding that it just would not grow on me and promptly forgot about it...
Please, remember me, happilyBy the rosebush laughingWith bruises on my chinThe time whenWe counted every black car passingYour house beneath the hillAnd up untilSomeone caught us in the kitchenWith maps, a mountain range,A piggy bankA vision too removed to mention, butPlease, remember me, fondlyI heard from someone you're still prettyAnd then they went on to sayThat the pearly gatesHad some elo...
For the past two days I've been under the weather, but there will be nothing that will hold me back from getting to the Blitzen Trapper/Iron & Wine concert at Babeville (Ani Difranco's church here in B-lo) tomorrow night. I lit up the other night when it hit me that I was finally going to be standing in the same room as Mr. Sam Beam. I'm thrilled, just thrilled. I've already prepared myself ...
