We start with the singer, whose name is Inara George and who is the daughter of the late Lowell George, the leader of a band that was, in the early '70s, quite amazing. That band was Little Feat and if you listen to their first three or four albums, you'll be blown away.Lowell's daughter has made a wonderful second album and to do that she enlisted Van Dyke Parks, the great arranger/collaborate...

Inara George, of the Bird and the Bee, has a new solo album coming out tomorrow, 8/12. She's extremely talented. Her late father was the lead from Little Feat. Why is it that talent does seem to run in families? I guess genes do have an effect. No, not those jeans.

An Invitation

Inara George + Van Dyke Parks = An Invitation, or the most beautiful, arresting album I've heard all year. I already know this is my personal favourite album of the year. I think this style of music is perfect for Inara George's voice, and I really can't think of arrangments by Van Dyke that I enjoy more. WHOA. Just get it.Listen to it with headphones.

Inara George is an artist I just discovered. She had a single track on a birthday mix that was bestowed upon me last January, and I liked her one song, but honestly didn't give it enough attention. Later I downloaded some other tracks by her, and they are all amazing. Actually, almost all of them took at least 2 listens to appreciate them, but now I can't stop listening to them! This song, Fool...

On this debut, Inara's skills are at once obvious; her delivery relaxed and confident. She's been steadily working in the LA music scene, playing in bands, and lending her voice to numerous musical projects/film scores (Van Dyke Parks, Idlewild, Danny Elfman, Michael Andrews, Jackson Browne, Phillip Littel). Inara teamed with producer/guitarist/composer Michael Andrews to record "All Rise." And...

Assuming -- and this is really giving people the benefit of the doubt here -- that the only reasons not to call Joanna Newsom's Ys a breathtaking work of staggering brilliance (or whatever) are that it's 1) full of 10-minute songs and 2) sung by Joanna Newsom, naysayers are going to have to hear An Invitation . A full-length collaboration with Van Dyke Parks (Newsom orchestrator, Brian Wilson...

It never hurts to have the right friends in the right places. Inara George takes full advantage of an old family friend on her new album An Invitation, out now on Everloving Records. Lucky for her, and us, the friend she's collaborated with on this album is Van Dyke Parks, the arranger of the last forty years. Haven't heard of him? Certainly you've heard him. Suffice it to say he arranged songs...

inara george :: an invitation

the second solo album from inara george , an invitation , is a collaboration with van dyke parks (who helped, among many others, joanna newsom arrange ys. ) and sounds a lot like the early, jon brion-produced (and a.g. endorsed) version of fiona apple's extraordinary machines , in which the almost cabaret light as air bounce of the instrumentation was decidedly at odds with apple's songwritin...

Why Van Dyke Parks? Why?

I was super excited for Inara George's follow-up to All Rise. Then I heard it. Not my thing at all.Sweeping, melodramatic strings. Sounds like showtunes. I was hugely let down.And then I read the sweet tale of why it came together -- Lowell George (Inara's Papa) being close friends with Van Dyke Parks and this collaboration being almost inevitable.And, also hearing that VDP is touring with Inar...

This woman has one of the most soothing and poetic means of musicianship that I have ever heard. She's wonderful and I got the chance to see her live in the spring of '06 in a really intimate venue and she completely took me by suprise. I can't even discribe the combinations of influences, but what ever she has put together works great!Give her a listen and let me know what you think!
