Yesterday I posted "Toe Jam", the latest single from Fatboy Slim's Brighton Port Authority.  Today I found the band's myspace page, which offers a few more details.   It turns out there's a full album in the works, including more stellar collaborations like Iggy Pop, Martha Wainwright and Ashley Beedle.  Some of these songs have been circulating for awhile now, but this will be the first time they are released together.  Iggy Pop sings on a wonderful cover of Monochrome ... Where Have You Seen Live Music?

In an effort to get to know the listening styles, and live music attending habits of fellow moggers, I thought this would be a good time to share where you have seen good live music around the world.  For me, it's been constrained primarily  to the US.  Regardless, I've been to a number of cities around the US and seen some decent bands in the dark and dingy night clubs of America.  Sometimes these shows were even in the day light hours! Feel free to share the cities, loc... MORE

Because Ivlander asked for this, here it is. Say what you will, but Iggy Pop is a crooner.  He's cut from the same cloth as his predeescessors - Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Jim Morrison (who he has cited as one of his biggest influences).  As much as he is known for rolling in broken glass or smearing himself with peanut butter, his real power is comanding the mike, and getting you to listen.  Even if he is in the process of throwing that mike at your head. Unfor... MORE

Lust for Life at 31

Artist:
Album:

You know that song, Lust for Life. Its got a long intro, very catchy - rhythmic, primitive guitars and drums inject in you a lust for life if you didn't already have one. And at some point in the 1990s, it seems that every advertising agency plucked the Iggy Pop - David Bowie composition to represent their product or service... a cruise line is the only one I can remember, but the song has been on TV and in movies even more... its in the early, pre-Material Girl ... 'Lord Of The Rings' star Elijah Wood is set to play Iggy Pop in a movie about his life. The biopic, entitled 'The Passenger', concentrates on Pop's early career with The Stooges, and is set to begin filming within six months. According to Variety, Pop has "given his blessing" to the project but will not take part in any of the filming. Maybe its just me, but I dont know how good of a pairing this is, I like them both but not together.

Blog post image preview CRANK IT UP!!! Maximum Volume required for full effect!.Only a few songs have ever caused me to set them on repeat repeatedly like some obsessed teenie-bopper. This here is probably the one I’ve done it with the most over the years. Iggy rockin’it out in massive dose of piss, love song, social commentary, and brilliant yet cheesy (Mountain gets steep? We're gonna make it-in a jeep) lyrics. .It just don’t get better than this… .HOME.I work so hard, man, so don't trip me... MORE

My Own Rock Star Pictures #1:Bowie plays Iggy's backup

Artist:
Album:

Blog post image preview I took quite a few pictures through my rock-tutelage. It started in high school with the old kodak and proceeded through college when I graduated to a Mamiya-Sekor slr Most of these pictures only exist in an album. I'm trying to put them on digital. Did a first pass last week. By the mid-seventies, Bowie and Iggy had been, ahem, pal-ing it up for a few years. Bowie even toured with Iggy, doing piano and backing vocals. I've read some reviews that pan this part of b... MORE

Blog post image preview It's been a while since I posted anything to make you blush with aural coyness.

I hope you'll enjoy this deceptively reflective little tune

I want to fuck her on the floor
Among my books of ancient lore
So I will make a full report
I got a Nazi girlfriend
Its not the four-inch heels she wears
Its not her baby-fine blond hair
Its more the desert in her stare
Ive got a Nazi girlfriend
She's not the colt
That she once was
She's elegant
But youth is lost
Still she has ways to make me ta

Blog post image preview ...Care for a little pop art with your Iggy Pop?...Back when I lived in New York, the installation artist Spencer Tunick took one of his infamous mass nude photos in Times Square (I worked a couple of blocks over in a building on Madison)...this was a decade and change before I'd ever hear of Britain's Banksy but I think the two are going in similar directions with their work...check this video which was shot when Tunick captured the picture above...continued here

Blog post image preview The 60 year old rocker has recently been critisized for writing songs about his special place on his bands latest album "The Weirdness". However, Iggy Pop thinks giving his penis attention is appropriate because he wants to sing about things that matter. "You write about things that are important to you, and it's gotta be for real. Do I think about my dick? All the time. I got a right to sing about it".

Who are we to infringe on this mans public relationship with his... MORE
