Somewhere somebody is buying a sick bass once played by Stooges bassist Mike Watt, or a mike stand Iggy Pop sweat all over it. Iggy and the Stooges gear was stolen outside the Embassy Suites Hotel in Montreal, Canada yesterday August 4th. The theft happened sometime beteen 6:30Am and 7:30 AM. The rock and roll gear was sitting in a rented yellow PENSKE truck, 15 feet long and with Michigan plate number AC46493. A Web site has been set up that will be updated with ph... MORE
"I found God - his name is Jim Osterberg a.k.a. Iggy Pop..." - that's how I felt after seeing Iggy & The Stooges perform live at the Royal Festival Hall.
I was going to try and give you a detailed review, but I can't; this was just one big beautiful haze of music and energy, thrown at me courtesy of Iggy. Unbelievable. Unforgettable.

Are you kidding me?! Granted, I'm too young to have seen Iggy Pop and/or the Stooges in their prime, but I live in Detroit so I am surrounded by tales of the old times; anyone who is into music knows the history of Iggy Pop, knows the revolutionary ideas the Stooges represented..... I haven't liked what I've heard from the new record, but it's not bad- just overproduced, watered down versions of old Stooges songs basically, with slightly tamer lyrics. But that doesn't mean... Last Saturday (April 21), Iggy Pop turned 60. He didn’t make a big commotion like Elton John's Celebration and maybe until last night, waiting to cut loose. The Stooges played to a sold out Los Angeles Wiltern Theatre. It's been reported that although the band made no mention of his birthday, the crowd still cried out "Happy birthday, Iggy!" It’s reported that Iggy stage dove, encouraged the crowd to come up on the stage and sing, threw the band's equipment around and ha... MORE
The MOG brain nixed Day 2, but no problem. It's a holiday weekend, and if there was ever a couple of songs that merited a double header, it's these two: Day 2: The Velvet Underground: "Sister Ray" Day 3: Iggy & the Stooges: "Search and Destroy" "Search and Destroy" formally established Iggy Pop as a Christ-like figure. By Raw Power, Iggy Pop was broken down, trying to pick up the pieces of his life. He didn't die (though he was probably one rock away at various point... MORE
Here are the guys I went with before the show. They don't look happy at all. That's Ronnie, Pete, and Brett. I took photos inside but was quickly told to put it away or leave. So all I got was really blurry and dark. Iggy was full of energy that amazed me for a man his age. He went nonstop dancing and jumping into the audience. He came down and shook hands with them. And then he called people up on the stage. Ronnie went up and danced with Iggy an... MORE
Normally I'm not a fan of The New York Times's pop music coverage, but I loved their recent piece on The Stooges was remarkable. It chronicled the band's recent recording sessions, including creative differences within the band. What struck me the most were two things: Iggy Pop, one of the wildest, most unpredictable figures in rock and roll history, obsessively keeps schedules and micromanages almost compulsively. The other, is that Ben Ratliff was able to criticize the b... MORE
Have you ever listened to song while driving and just know it's a terrible driving song. I don't mean terrible because the song sucks. I mean terrible in the sense that the song is just damn perfect that it places you beyond the car. The song is usually pretty rockin'. A hard driving guitar riff, powerful vocals, and just badass. Or sometimes it's Pat Benatar. In any event, I do not recommend listening to Search and Destroy while driving at night. It just may cause you to ... MORE
