High Places Tour to Explore Places of Varying Altitudes
about 1 year ago

High Places (warning: MySpace may induce seizures) have certainly had a strong 2008. But why stop when the year ends? Might as well keep the momentum going, right? According to their label Thrill Jockey, High Places will be embarking on a very, very long international tour beginning right after Election Day in Belgium and ending early April 2009 in Denmark. Hell, after a pretty solid collection...

An Exploratory Tour With High Places of Steep Cliffs and Large Mountains Around the Continental United States
about 1 year ago

High Places, the beloved electro-pop duo of tragically flat Brooklyn, NY, would like to invite you on an expedition sure to raise the altitude and perhaps your blood pressure. They're embarking soon (today, in fact) on a tour around the country to support their upcoming self-titled album (due September 22 on Thrill Jockey). But, brave explorers, this is not the main focus of their journey! Thos...

New High Places - "From Stardust To Sentience"

It's hard to believe, but High Places still haven't released their first proper album -- 03/07 - 09/07 was a comp, remember. But don't expect a letdown because their forthcoming self-titled debut on Thrill Jockey is great, easily expanding on and complicating their past work, creating a more cohesive whole than you received via 03/07 - 09/07 . A little while ago we offered up a listen to the re...

High Places - Review

Sometimes the cold metallic sheen of the loop-based, electronic and beat-laden can be a little too sophisticated in its modernity to transcend its exclusivity to the dance faction, which is a shame, because often the loop-based, electronic and beat laden can be fairly warm and inclusive, without sounding like a field recording of a toolbox [...] No related posts.

East Village Radio Festival - High Places
about 1 year ago

High Places hail from Brooklyn and this was my third time seeing them. The band's sound is full of lovely contradictions. They write music that feels like summertime - and not that loud beach party sort of summertime, but more like a summer you've had and remember. To me, summer has always seemed distant - even in July. Only as I reach its conclusion do I realize how much has really happened....

High Places - High Places

Earlier this year, High Places, aside from touring to great effect with Liars and Deerhunter and picking up a good slice of Pitchfork hype, released (and I did a pretty rubbish review of, because I liked it but couldn’t think of anything significant to write) 03/07-09/07, essentially an expanded EP collection and precursor to this, their debut album proper, only admittedly one that is only 2 mi.

[photo courtesy of Jonny Leather]In July we first witnessed the live High Places at Stuyvesant Town under very similar circumstances — and outdoor show on a beautiful day, with a diverse crowd containing a large majority of people unfamiliar with the band. The result was the same too. Our favorite electronic fusion-pop duo [...]

Sweden's Love Is All dressed up for Halloween a little early this year to record spooky videos for each track on their upcoming A Hundred Things Keep Me up at Night LP (due out November 11). Their attempt to look scary sort of backfires though, as Josephine just ends up looking even more adorable than usual. These are going to be all over the place in the next couple days, so try to catch them ...

[MP3] High Places: "The Start" & "From Stardust to Sentience"

We still don't really understand all the hubbub about High Places ' first release 03/07 - 09/07 -- we tried listening and absorbing, but the form outweighed the function just a little too much for our humble tastes--but with the upcoming release of HP's official debut High Places they've managed to pack a bigger punch into a more accessible package and now we're beginning to see what all th...

Influenced as much by Black Dice as they are hip-hop sounds, an oddly friendly type of alien sound inhabits the hazy, psychedelic and percussion-heavy land of High Places ...
