ok, it's not ??really?? smut, but what else can you really call it?This is a group of dude who really are almost legends in Northen California. Hella. I posted about them maybe a year or so ago and felt I should give 'em another spin on the Mogos. This song is called "The Republic Of Rough And Ready,"(below) which is the name that a town near where we grew up that is the only to have "seceded" ...
Northen California ???? band, "Hella" playing "Repbulic of Rough and Ready".For how far out and spazzy their sound is, it might be a suprise to some that they are rather mellow guys.
Avant-garde noise rockers Hella make intricate music and thus need an intricate music video. It took a whole year to make, but this brand new video for "Ungrateful Dead" is pretty complex. In fact, there's so much detail and fine lines, that it's best seen on big of a screen as you can find. The video websites compress it waaaaay too much, so watch the quicktime movie:http://www.scottfrench....
This band is great. This kind of stuff gets me really excited. These are the days that I wait for where a band falls into my lap that is just fucking incredible. And I can only say, why now? Because this should have been a no brainer. I should have found this in my sleep long ago. Zach Hill is the goddamn drummer, it makes no sense that this would fly under my radar...until now. Now I am going ...
Hella, the Sacramento-based psycho-jazz-rock guitar/drums duo, will have a new recording out this fall on Kill Rock Stars' adventurous sister (or is it brother?) label, 5RC. Acoustics, described as a "stripped down" collection of previously released songs, will be released on September 12. Hella acting silly with food. The guys - Zach Hill and Spencer Seim - are on a West Coast tour, playing a...
Yep, it's good, thanks again Mog. More brainy and indie than Lightning Bolt, but still good n rowdy. Got to give it up to bands that do the no-singer thing. Screw vocals, MAKE MORE NOISE.
According to a new blog post on their MySpace page, Hella have reshuffled themselves back to the original duo of Zach Hill and Spencer Seim. They are currently at work on Hella's new album, which will be recorded and finished sometime this year on an as-yet unknown record label. Because this news is not particularly that exciting, I've decided to rewrite this story below and add in a few creati...
This may be old news, but what the hell. From "hellaband.com":http://hellaband.com/..."The Band HeLLa is now...ZACH HILL, JOSH HILL, AARON ROSS, CARSON MCWHIRTER, SPENCER SEIM..................................... The new HeLLa will be working for most of 2006 on their new full length record set for release in january 2007 on ipecac recordings........................."It looks like Zach Hill and ...
First of all the whole traveling 6 hours to Portland was well worth it. Even if it was only for a day. My friend and I had an enormous amount of fun that was well, fun. Very liberating mind you.Second, the concert was...alright to say the least. I enjoyed the opening bands much more so than Hella. I don't remember the first warm-up band but The Dirty Projectors, who played second, were qui...
My friend and I are you going to be traveling 6 hours to Portland this weekend to go and see Hella. I, personally, know nothing of the band. The sound bytes and clips I've exposed myself to tend reveal to me that this band is about making noise. I am not a fan of noise even if it has some obscure melodic undertone. No I don't like it.So why go? For the adventure of course and seeing any co...
