I think many of you have thought that I have been blowing smoke up your (you know, whatsit). I assure you this isn't the case.Tonight I have been given the okay to run for Congress under the Libertarian Party banner. Here is a clip from an email I received from the party chairman in Pennsylvania;*If you absolutely want to start gathering signatures on the 13th, then you should do so under the ...
Quoted without (overt) comment:The average global temperature in 2008 is likely to wind up slightly under 57.9 degrees Fahrenheit, about a tenth of a degree cooler than last year. When Clinton was inaugurated, 57.9 easily would have been the warmest year on record. Now, that temperature would qualify as the ninth warmest year.

I'm a sucker for all things Hawkwind, especially when it involves Michael Moorcock and Lemmy (yes, Motorhead Lemmy is there any other?). I used to be a sucker for the Utah Saints in 1992, so this is some pretty groovy news to get in one basket.... Hawkwind has been slowly trickling out the word on another Hawkfest in the UK (Donington Park, Nr Derby, Derbyshire). Their mizzle$pace blog start...
Great webcomic you ought check out - FreakAngels by Warren Ellis and Paul Duffield.Begins here, with a four-page tease of character drawings, then continues here with the first six-page episode. So i'm listening to *Hawkwind*'s Quark Strangeness and Charm (on RealPlayer), and the "Album Info" thingie up in the corner is telling me all this stuff about Hawkwind - sort-of true stuff ror the most part, but just little bits from here and there in their history - the kind of thing that was true in, like 1973, but not in 1980.And then it ups and says:Lemmy was fired from Hawkwind because his...
According to Classic Rock Magazine , Cherry Red Records have acquired the albums that psychedelic warlords Hawkwind recorded between 1976 and 1997 for a catalogue expansion campaign to take place over the next 18 months. Such titles as Amazing Sounds, Amazing Music (1976), Quark, Strangeness And Charm (1977), 25 Years On (1978), Levitation (1980), Sonic Attack (1981), Choose Your Masques (...
Hawkwind – Space Ritual – (UA/EMI)Recorded live in December 1972 and released the following year, Space Ritual is an excellent document of Hawkwind's classic lineup, underscoring the group's status as space rock pioneers. As the quintessential "people's band," Hawkwind carried '60s countercultural idealism into the '70s, gigging constantly, playing wherever there was an audience, and even play
First apologies for not posting earlier, it's halfway into February nearly and this is my first post of 2008. It's been a hectic 2008, not least of all the fact that my bro has been in hospital for the last couple of weeks having undergone a major operation to remove brain tumours. The good news is he survived the op is is now recovering in hospital. Only time will tell how much he recovers, we...
Going through some old records that I had acquired from my dad I was excited to find a Hawkwind record. I've really just discovered Hawkwind and I'm finding that I like them, so it was a good find. Except that instead of finding a Hawkwind record inside the sleeve it was Barry Manilow. I was dissappointed to say the least. I think I actually cursed and yelled for a minute. I mean Barry Man...
I've got this on CD but it's not the same as my old worn out black plastic round things........there's no atmosphere,it sounds too clean and besides that you don't get the 6ft square fold out sleeve either.Hawkwind are one of my favourite bands and I've seen them and their various crew members fly a few starships around the universe a few times over the years so expect some more on this subject.
Back in 1972, the whole concept of space travel was still pretty fresh. It was still a scant 3 years after the first moon landing, and the last Apollo mission was still months away. A month after David Bowie reached number 10 in the UK charts with "Starman", Hawkwind reached number 3 with "Silver Machine", the only hit of their long and storied career. Lyricist Bob Calvert apparently wrote this...
I suppose that in 1971 the acid-laced, space rock stylings of the mighty, albeit notoriously hedonistic Hawkwind, might’ve made sense to some people. Possibly those on the same diet of LSD and assorted other substances, legal or otherwise, that is often associated with the band. This was a time when the naivety of the hippy dream [...]Post from: Head Full of SnowHawkwind - We Took the Wrong Step
