All Music GuideThis is the first of two Giants of Jazz LPs that feature trumpeter Harry James heading an octet rather than his customary big band. Among the sidemen are Herbie Steward on tenor, altoist Willie Smith, valve trombonist Juan Tizol and drummer Buddy Rich. The highpoints of this enjoyable swing set include "Perdido," "Honeysuckle Rose," "Stardust," "Roll 'Em" and "The Great Lie"; in addition Rich takes two spirited vocals. This album is worth searching for as is its companion Saturday Night Swing.
