AMG Review of Renaissance Man
Jason Ankeny
All Music GuideA refreshing change of pace from Hans Zimmer's aggressive action scores, the light and lively Renaissance Man largely eschews the electronics of previous efforts to embrace more traditional sensibilities. With brass fanfares and heavy percussion most obviously evoking the film's military setting, Zimmer creates a wonderfully old-fashioned symphonic work rich in variety and texture -- few of his scores are so multifaceted yet so complete. Saving the worst for last, Varese Sarabande's official soundtrack release concludes with Marky Mark's execrable ap effort "To Be or Not to Be."
