AMG Review of There's Nothing as Sweet as My Baby
Stephen Thomas Erlewine
All Music GuideThere's Nothing As Sweet As My Baby is a documentation of a 1951 radio transcription that features rowdy, exciting takes of several country classics, as well as Hank's versions of contemporary songs. There might not be many of his big hits, but listeners buying this album aren't looking for hits, they're looking for revelations and There's Nothing As Sweet As My Baby is full of them. Williams turns in terrific versions of "Cherokee Boogie," "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain," "Lonely Tombs," and "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You)," and there is a brief interview, as well as a song by his wife, Audrey Williams. It's an excellent addition to a comprehensive Hank Williams collection, and perfect for fans of the double-disc set Health and Happiness Shows.
