Hall & Oates

70's Scenario (Philly team up, Edition #1)

Though I know "War Babies" spent some considerable time filtering into my subconscious through the second half of the 70's, the times I've listened to this unusual Hall and Oates 1974 set since have been unspectacular. So, though I was initially excited when our buddy dermahrk expressed a desire to hear some of the Todd Rundgren produced/ Utopia backed production, I felt myself shrinking from ...

No, no....not that. But, maybe some of you are thinking, "Hall & Oates? Can't you find some serious music??" Well now, lemmee tell ya, prior to them finding that big glossy pop sound that had a majority of housewives across the continent mirror-dancing, these guys made some real decent records. The girls in college were real big on that silver album that had "Sara Smile" on it, and when somethi...

Hall & Oates Got Them Deep River Blues

From the real early years, I believe, here's a tune you wouldn't expect from them, which makes is kind of special. I don't really expect many people to listen to it, but those that do may enjoy this departure.

Why DO Lovers Break Each Other's Hearts?

Hall & Oates "Beauty on a Backstreet" was pretty much shunned by FM radio upon release in '77, hell - according to wikipedia - the duo themselves even dislike it...but you know what? If I could pick only one original studio recording out of their catalogue, this is it. Not only does it feature their "blue-eyed soul" in perfect patented form, it featuers a bare-bones band format - with the guita...

... Trying to listen to something other than the main work spins lately (EPMD's Strictly Business, Radiohead's In Rainbows and Matthew Good's Hospital Music) ... ... I raided my boss's CD stacks over by the office supplies and spin Prince's Musicology for a bit, which was nice ... but the tune that's got me FLOORED this morn is an oldie but a goodie -- Hall and Oates' take on "She's Gone" from ...

They were so fierce! Awesome Mousse Mullets! I saw them in concert during their heydey in the 1980's. They dominated the early days of MTV.G.E. Smith seemed so intense, and kind of scary. I think he left the band, and then was the leader of the SNL house band for several years.I hear Darryl Hall is still in Philadelphia and does some concerts around the area and in Atlantic City.

"Maneater" still ringing in my ears

Who would have thought that these two guys would put on the loudest concert over the last 25 years? No joke, half the crowd had their hands pressed against their ears for the entire show. I am pretty sure that the sound guy passed out a few songs in and swiped the volume knobs on his way down....What was your loudest concert?

A New Generation Embraces Hall & Oates

So these videos may more or less be 'spoofs' but I generally think they look upon the music lovingly (and why wouldn't they). Found some great Hall & Oates recreations (I think I'm in the throes of a yacht rock phase) and made this "Searchles mashup":http://www.searchles.com/channels/show/4314 below. I discovered 'Portable Radio' only two days ago and it has been on repeat on my iTunes and in...

Do What You Want, Be What You Are

Hall & Oates are gettin' it on again. The great songwriting and performing duo that hit big in the 1970s and 1980s are back in a pretty big way (read below), though they never really stopped performing individually. They were always up to their solo things, most recently with Darryl Hall's Live from Darryl's House (which is a pretty cool view).Their press kids write: "From the success of the we...
